QCWA Young Girls' Craft Group - Kingaroy
The QCWA Young Girls' Craft Group will be holding their regular third Saturday of the month meeting at the QCWA Rooms in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy (just next to the RSL) from 1:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. The group is for young girls aged 10 years and older, who can learn useful crafts and home skills such as sewing, knitting, crochet, cooking, healthy eating, catering and presentation under the supervision of QCWA ladies and a supervisor. There's a small $2 charge each day to cover the cost of goods used, but all young girls are very welcome. Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Senior Citizens Centre in Avoca Street, Kingaroy from 6:30am to around 12:00pm today. The markets feature an array of arts, crafts, fruit and flower stalls and new stallholders are always very welcome! More details? Phone Doug on (07) 4162-7300.
Wondai-Proston RLFC Mini-Mods Carnival
The Wondai-Proston RLFC will be holding their annual Mini-Mods Carnival at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD today. More than 600 U7s, U8s, U10s and U12s players from all across the Wide Bay region will be coming to Wondai with their families in tow to play Mini Mod matches - an introductory form of rugby league, with modified rules, which emphasises skill development and having fun. The U7s, U8s and U10s play 15-minute games while the U12s – who compete for a trophy – play 19-minute games. The action will happen on three fields at the Sportsgrounds from early this morning until late this afternoon, and spectators are very welcome to come along too.
Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg
Round 12 of the South Burnett's 2014 senior rugby league season will be held at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg today - and while this was originally planned to be a double header, a last-minute forfeit by the Kingaroy Red Ants against the home team means today's footy will feature one A-grade match only. Activities will get underway at 11:00am with the U14s, and they'll be followed by the U16s at 12:00 noon. After this - at 1:30pm - the Wondai Wolves will play the Nanango Stags in the seniors clash in what should be a very good game, given both teams' performances in recent weeks. Admission to the grounds for the junior games is $2, and for the A-Grade game it's $5. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
Graeme Jensen - Nanango
Popular country rock entertainer Graeme Jensen will be performing at the Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 7:30pm to 11:30pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the club on (07) 4163-1375.
Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy and Murgon
The thirteenth round of the South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League will be held in Murgon and Kingaroy this afternoon. In Murgon - what promises to be an exciting top-of-the-table clash between this season's two leading sides - home team Barambah will take on the Nanango Panthers at the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Street, with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, followed by Women's Division at 3:30pm and the 1st Division clash at 5:00pm. And in Kingaroy, Gunners will play Wests at the Kingaroy Soccer Grounds at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 2:00pm; Women's Division at 3:30pm; and 1st Division at 5:00pm. A bar and canteen will be running at both venues, admission is free and spectators are very welcome! Meanwhile Junior Soccer will be run at the Kingaroy Junior Soccer Fields in Oliver Bond Street, with matches at 8:00am, 8:45am, 9:30am and 10:15am.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
South Burnett Woodcrafters Meeting - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street. from 8:00am to around mid-day today. Saturday Night With Sax Appeal - Wondai
The South Burnett's very own "Sultan Of Sax" Tom McKenzie will be playing at the Wondai Hotel & Cellars in Haly Street, Wondai from 6:00pm until late tonight. Paper Tole Workshop - Wondai
Well-known South Burnett paper tole expert Rosemarie Matthews-Frederick will be conducting the first day of a weekend-long Paper Tole Workshop at the Wondai Art Gallery's Studio on the roundabout at Wondai from 9:00am to 4:00pm today (and also tomorrow). The workshop caters for all skill levels - from beginner right up to advanced - and course fees are $75 for the weekend. If you're attending, you should bring along your lunch, scissors, tweezers, a ruler, a pencil, a craft cutting mat and a craft knife - but all other materials will be supplied. More details?
