Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show & Shine
The main public day of the three-day Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show 'N' Shine will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (right next to the Maidenwell Hotel) all day today. This popular event - which is run by the South Burnett Gas Guzzlers to support local charities - features live music; a big Show'n'Shine focussing on hot rods, street machines and pre-1975 customs; and vintage and veteran caravans. Today's activities will kick off at 8:00am for Show & Shine exhibitors, and at 9:00am for the public. There'll be food stalls, raffles, engine blow-ups, a live band and market stalls, along with a free jumping castle, face painting and a colouring competition for the kiddies. In the evening there'll also be a great pig-on-a-spit dinner at the Maidenwell Hotel, an auction, and live entertainment from the South Burnett's very own Elvis (Jeff Hancox) until the wee hours. NAIDOC Golf Day - Murgon
To kick off NAIDOC Week (which starts tomorrow), the annual NAIDOC Golf Day will be held at the Murgon Golf Club on the Bunya Highway in Murgon today. This is an 18 hole single stroke event for registered and non-registered, indigenous and non-indigenous golfers alike. There'll be prizes and trophies for NTP, Longest Drive, Male and Female along with raffles. This event traditionally draws players from all over south-east Queensland and green fees are just $10 per head, which includes a light BBQ at the presentation. Reserve Forces Social Bowls Day - Wondai
A special social bowls afternoon to mark Reserve Forces Day (which falls tomorrow) will be held at the Wondai Country Club off the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD from 12:00 noon - when things will kick off with BBQ lunch - followed by social bowls matches at 1:00pm. Fees apply to both the BBQ lunch and bowls games, but everyone is welcome. More details from the Country Club: (07) 4168-5582. Note: This evening there'll also be a Reserve Forces Day Meet & Greet at the Hotel Cecil in Mackenzie Street from 5:30pm for people who've travelled to Wondai to take part in tomorrow's commemoration as either participants or spectators.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Rugby League - Murgon
The Murgon Mustangs' A Grade team will be hosting a Sunshine Coast 2nd Division representative team at the Murgon Showgrounds at 3:00pm today. All spectators welcome!
Art Exhibition Opening - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) will be opening their July exhibition at 10:30am this morning. This month's exhibition will feature new works in watercolours, oils, pastels and charcoal by Nanango artist Lois Hamilton in the main gallery; paper tole craftwork by Rosemarie Matthews-Fredrick in Gallery 3; and some cosy and fashionable scarves and beanie style hats made from hand-spun local Alpaca wool by the Booie Weavers and Spinners in Shop 38. Saturday Night With Sax Appeal - Wondai
The South Burnett's very own "Sultan Of Sax" Tom McKenzie will be playing at the Wondai Hotel & Cellars in Haly Street, Wondai from 6:00pm until late tonight. South Burnett Woodcrafters Meeting - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street. from 8:00am to around mid-day today. Dance - Tablelands Hall
A dance (and dance lessons, if you need them) will be held at Tablelands Hall from 6:30pm until late tonight (supper is served at 6:30pm; dancing will follow afterwards). The dance will feature old time and new vogue numbers and admission includes the supper. Entry is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $2.50 for anyone else. Everyone is welcome!
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening.
