South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Casino Fun Night - Nanango
The Nanango Mardi Gras committee will be holding a Casino Night at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street from 7:30pm until late this evening as fundraiser for this year's festival. Guests at this gala event will be greeted by showgirls from the La Creme Dance Academy as they walk up the red carpet and inside, professional croupiers from Brisvegas will be offering blackjack, roulette, Texas hold'em poker, craps and casino war on casino-standard tables (along with help if you don't know how to play any particular game). The South Burnett's very own Elvis (aka Jeff Hancox) will be providing live entertainment throughout the evening, and the entry fee includes $1,000 in fun money, two drinks, finger food and unlimited tea and coffee. There'll also be a Lucky Door Prize of one night's accommodation for two people at the RACV Noosa Resort at Noosa Heads. Tickets are $80 single or $150 per couple and can be obtained in advance from the Nanango Energy and Visitor Information Centre in Henry St, Nanango or by phoning Chris on (07) 4633-3367. Fruit & Veggie Markets - Yarraman
Yarraman's monthly Fruit & Vegetable Markets will be running on the empty block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (opposite Bendigo Bank) from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. These new markets run on the 4th Saturday of each month and offer a wide range of fresh fruit and veggies, along with plant and craft stalls.
Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. Christmas In July Dinner - Nanango
Nanango RSL will be hosting a Christmas In July Winter Wonderland Dinner in Taras Hall next to the RSL in George Street, Nanango from 5:30pm until late tonight as a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness. The dinner will feature a great 3 course meal, guest speakers and a licensed bar, live entertainment from Amber Goldsmith, Rowan Edwards and Natalie Fenton, raffles, prizes and giveaways. PPS: Amber Goldsmith will be giving her last performance at tonight's dinner before hanging up her guitar and taking up a new life as a mother.
Christmas In July Bingo - Kingaroy
The Endeavour Foundation will be holding a special "Christmas In July Bingo" afternoon at the Kingaroy RSL Club in Markwell Street, Kingaroy at 1:30pm today. There'll be four jackpots - all in 90 calls - of $200, $150, Aces High and $1,000, plus lots of great raffle prizes. Everyone is welcome!
Saturday Rugby League - Murgon
Round 13 of the South Burnett's 2014 senior rugby league season will be held at the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon this afternoon - and it will be a double header. Activities will get underway at 2:30pm with an U18s match between the Mustangs and Stags, and this will be followed at 4:00pm by the first A-grade clash of the day, when the Nanango Stags take on the Murgon Mustangs. In the second match, which will start at 6:00pm, the Wondai Wolves will play the so-far-undefeated Cherbourg Hornets. Admission to the grounds for the junior game is $2, and for the A-Grade games it's $5, and a bar and canteen will be operating. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
South Burnett Woodcrafters Meeting - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street. from 8:00am to around mid-day today. Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy and Nanango
The 14th round of the South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League will be held in Nanango and Kingaroy this afternoon. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play Gunners at the Nanango soccer fields in Burnett Street, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 12:30pm; Women's Division at 2:00pm and 1st Division at 3:15pm. And in Kingaroy, Wests will play Barambah, with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, Women's Division playing at 3:30pm and 1st Division at 5:00pm. A bar and canteen will be running at both venues, admission is free and spectators are very welcome! Meanwhile Junior Soccer will be run at the Kingaroy Junior Soccer Fields in Oliver Bond Street, with matches at 8:00am, 8:45am, 9:30am and 10:15am.
Southwest - Kingaroy

Saturday Night With Sax Appeal - Wondai
The South Burnett's very own "Sultan Of Sax" Tom McKenzie will be playing at the Wondai Hotel & Cellars in Haly Street, Wondai from 6:00pm until late tonight. Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall from 7:300pm until around 11:30pm this evening. Music will be supplied by a local band and there'll be the usual great supper, novelties and lucky door prize. Ride To Conquer Cancer - Maidenwell
The Maidenwell Hotel will be playing host to a Ride To Conquer Cancer fundraiser all day today to raise funds for Kate Duffield, who'll be riding in this Brisbane event on August 16-17. There'll be live music; pub games all day; cricket, afl and rugby matches on the oval; bike and car races; a great pig-on-a-spit dinner from 6:00pm; and a sporting memorabilia auction in the evening with items signed by Shane Warne, Wally Lewis and many more. Junior Rugby League - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Red Ants rugby league club will be doubling its gate fees to $4 today to help raise funds to assist the family of senior coach Darren Geiger. Darren’s wife Lynda was recently diagnosed with cancer. Half the gate takings will be donated to the Geiger family and the club will also be taking donations throughout the day. There will also be “pink” items for sale, including pink socks for the U12s, u14s and U16s, for $10/pair. The U14 and U16 teams will also be playing in pink jerseys for the day. The couple’s son Adam plays in the U16 team.
Careflight Enduro Loops Challenge - Boondooma
Manar Park at Boondooma will be holding a Careflight Enduro Loops Challenge today (and also tomorrow) as a fundraiser for the RACQ Careflight Helicopter Rescue Service. Today the Park will be running a 4-loop Enduro Challenge for motorcycles and quad bikes, beginning at 6:30am with staggered starts for all the Enduro loops. The Challenge is a non-competitive, social event to allow riders to test their ability in the company of like-minded people, and accommodation is also available on-site if you want to camp out. POSTPONED: A "Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves Trivia Night" will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Coulson Street, Blackbutt from 5:00pm until late this evening as a fundraiser for this year's Bloomin' Beautiful Blackbutt Festival. There'll be prizes for the best-dressed table, games and raffles. Tickets are $120 per table of 8 or $20 per person - which includes soup, pasta and dessert - and a licensed bar will be operating too. Game play will take place in groups of 8 and individuals and/or teams of less than 6 will be combined.
