South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Nanango Cup Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be running their first meeting of the new racing year - the Nanango Cup - at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 11:00am to around 5:00pm. Today's meeting will feature eight races, with the first race leaving the barriers are 12:15pm. Other popular features of this meeting - including the annual Blessing Of The Jockeys ceremony and the announcement of Lee Park's Trainer, Jockey and Horse Of THe Year premierships - will be held before the first race gets underway. The meeting will have a Classic Racewear fashion theme it will be offering prizes of $500, $200 and $100 for the winners of the Men’s and Women’s categories, and $20, $10 and $5 for children. Racegoers can also be in the running to win one of the 20 free betting vouchers that bookmakers have donated to celebrate the meeting, which is always one of the biggest of the year. Other popular features of the Lee Park course such as a bar, BBQ and canteen will also be in operation, and there's plenty of undercover seating if any showers eventuate. Free buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (11:15am) and Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 11:45am. The first race will leave the barriers around 12:15pm but gates will open at 10:30am so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under-15s are free). Everyone is welcome!
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Railway Parkrun - Proston
The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Phantom Of The Music Hall - Proston
POSTPONED: The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting a theatre-restaurant production of their latest comedy Phantom Of The Music Hall at Proston's Community Hall in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00pm tonight. This three-hour show is set in a music hall at the turn of the century which is haunted by a phantom who doesn't like pantomime. But the music hall's new owner wants to stage a Cinderella pantomime and the cast's efforts to convince the phantom it's really a melodrama are hilarious. Tickets to tonight's show - which includes a two course dinner and an open bar - are $50 per head and they can be booked online. Note: This event has been postponed due to illness in the cast. A new date will be announced in due course.
Twilight QCWA Scone Day - Kingaroy
Kingaroy's QCWA Twilight Branch will be holding a Scone Day at the QCWA Building at 122 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am this morning through until this afternoon as a fundraiser for the branch's operations. You can purchase and enjoy freshly-baked scones in a wide variety of flavours that range from classic scones through to pumpkin scones, date scones, ginger scones, cheese scones, chocolate scones and savoury scones for a modest outlay, and enjoy them on site with tea and coffee, jam and cream or wrap them up and take a bulk order back home with you to enjoy at a later time. The QCWA craft store will also be open all day today if you want to browse the great range of things it has on offer. Everyone is welcome!
Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon
The Suncoast Spinners will be hosting Wheelchair Basketball at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon, from 10:00am to noon today. New players are very welcome!
Kingaroy Men's Shed
The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 8:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their workshop buildings at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for their regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am and continuing on until noon. Saturday Rugby League - Blackbutt and Nanango
After floods and school holidays, the South Burnett's rugby league competition will return to a semblance of normal today, with junior grade matches (U6s to U12s) being played at Blackbutt's Bunny Pearce Oval from 8:00am this morning. Meanwhile, Nanango will be hosting this week's senior games at Fred Kassulke Oval on the D'Aguilar Highway south of the CBD as part of its annual Stags Old Boys & Sponsors Day. The action will kick off at 10:00am with an U16s clash between the South Burnett Eagles and Pittsworth, followed at 11:15am with an U17s game between the Eagles and Pittsworth. These will be followed at 2:00pm with an U14s match between Nanango and Murgon, before the first A-grade match of the day kicks off at 3:00pm between the Wondai Wolves and Murgon Mustangs. After this - at 4:30pm - the day's second A-grade clash between Nanango's Stags and Cherbourg's Hornets will conclude proceedings. A canteen and (after the junior games wrap up) a bar will be operating in the grounds and spectators are very welcome.
Robert Early - Kingaroy

Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Yarraman Men's Shed
