Scots In The Bush - Boondooma
The third day of this year's four-day Scots In The Bush Scottish and Celtic Festival will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Mundubbera-Durong Road at Boondooma today. The Festival - the largest of its kind in Queensland - features Scottish pipe bands and dancers, folk singers and poets as well as Scottish food, games and much more! Special guests this year include Darrel Craft, David Rowen, Tom Kimmet, Vince Pagett, Mouldy Haggis, Celtic Thunder Oz, the Ishka Ceilidh Band, the Rum City Highland Dancers, the Moreton Celtic Fiddle Club, the Noosa & District Pipe Band, Celtic Psychosis, the Toowoomba Caledonian Pipe Band, Murrumba Pipes and Drums and more. A licensed bar will be running throughout the event and meals will be available too, as well as on-site camping, Highland games, a Blessing Of The Haggis and a big Celtic market. Day tickets are $10 to $20 per head for adults, and children under 15 are free. Today the Festival will get underway at 8:00am and run non-stop until around 10:00pm tonight. Kingaroy Baconfest
The first full day of the Kingaroy BaconFest will be held in and around Kingaroy today, kicking off with a community fun run and cycle rides along the South Burnett Rail Trail that will open for registrations at the Kingaroy entrance to the South Burnett Rail Trail at 8:00am. Meanwhile - in Glendon Street - there'll be markets from 10:00am along with live music and cooking demonstrations, bacon eating contests, a fashion parade and children's entertainment that will run until 4:00pm, followed by an evening of live music that will run until 10:00pm. Meanwhile, the Kingaroy Cinema will be screening the Kevin Bacon Film Festival at its Short Street complex. BaconFest will conclude tomorrow with a ticketed Long Table Breakfast at 7:00am (now sold out) and a second day of markets, cooking demonstrations and general entertainment running from 10:00am to 3:00pm before the BBQ cook-off winners are announced at 4:00pm. Admission to Baconfest is $6 per day or $10 for the weekend, with concessions and family passes available. You can get the full program of events from the BaconFest website (PDF).
Widgee Pro Rodeo
The inaugural Widgee Pro Rodeo (a fundraiser for Widgee State School) will be held at the Widgee Showgrounds on the Gympie-Woolooga Road at Widgee from 2:30pm (when the gates open) until late tonight. The Rodeo will run from 5:00pm until around 11:30pm, and a live band will fire up at 8:30pm and play until after midnight. Food and drink will be available in the grounds as well, and admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under (under 5s can get in for free) or you can buy a family pass (2 adults and 2 children) for $50. There's also camping available onsite if you'd like to stay over. Everyone is welcome!
Moore Hall Markets
The monthly Moore Hall Markets will be held in the grounds surrounding the Soldiers Hall just off the D'Aguilar Highway in Moore's CBD from 7:00am to around noon this morning. The markets are held on the third Saturday of each month and new stallholders are always welcome.
Pig On A Spit Night - Cooyar
The Cooyar Hotel on the New England Highway at Cooyar will be running a pig on a spit night with live music by Vanessa Sanger from 3:00pm (when the music kicks off in the Outback Bar) until late tonight. Food will start serving at 6:00pm. Tickets are $25 per person for adults and a price per age for children aged 4 to 12 (under 3s are free). However - to plan the catering - bookings are essential. Footsteps - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnet entertainers Footsteps will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm until 11:00pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Kingaroy Friendship Markets
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, food stalls, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome! Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 8:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their workshop buildings at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for their regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am and continuing on until noon. Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy
The season may have come to an end for our local Rugby Union and AFL teams, but the South Burnett's rugby league competition will be running at full steam today. Most junior games (for U6s to U12s) will be played at Bunny Pearce Oval in Blackbutt from 8:00am to around 2:00pm, but the main action will occur at the Murgon Showgrounds where the home side will be celebrating their annual Over 35s round. The Murgon action will get underway at 9:00am with an U14s match between Murgon and Cherbourg on the main field and U10 and U12 local junior games on the second field, This will be followed by U15s at 10:15am (South Burnett vs Gatton), U16s at 11:30am (SB vs Gatton) and U17s at 12:45pm (SB vs Gatton). Then at 2:00pm, there'll be Over 35s Rotations between Murgon, Goomeri, Wondai and Kingaroy that should be a lot of fun to watch, before the first A-grade match of the day between the Murgon Mustangs and Kingaroy Red Ants takes to the field at 3:45pm. This will be followed by the day's second A-grade clash between the Wondai Wolves and Cherbourg Hornets at 5:15pm. A bar and canteen will be operating in the grounds, entry is $2 for adults before 10:00am or $5 for adults after 10:00am and spectators are very welcome. Note: Entry to the Murgon Showgrounds today is via the Garrick Street gate only .
Buzz Talay & The Linville County Convicts - Linville
Popular Brisbane Valley country funk band Buzz Talay & The Linville County Convicts will be performing over lunch and dinner at The Linville Hotel in George Street, Linville today (ie 12:00 noon to 2:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm).
