2014 Kilkivan Great Horse Ride
The 2014 Kilkivan Great Horse Ride will be held in and around Kilkivan today. The Great Horse Ride is one of the few genuine spectacles of south-east Queensland, with more than 800 riders expected to spend the day riding across five different trails in and around the district before assembling at 4:00pm in the afternoon for the breath-taking Grand Parade along Bligh Street (Kilkivan's main street). But you don't have to be a rider to enjoy the day! From 10:00am onwards there'll be a market and food fest operating in Bligh Street, and a Pony Club and Horse Riding Challenges will be running all day in the Showgrounds too (final judging will occur just before the Grand Parade). These will be followed by an all-star, fully licensed Campfire Concert at the showgrounds from 6:00pm until late tonight featuring a swag of great country enmtertainers. Concert admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children aged 12-17 (under 12 free). Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Uniting Church Variety Stalls - Kingaroy
The Uniting Church on the corner of Alford and Youngman streets in Kingaroy will be holding a mini-fete from 7:00am this morning. There'll be variety stalls as well as plants for sale. For more information, phone (07) 4162-3401.
Police & Rotary Gala Charity Ball - Kingaroy
A Gala Charity Ball organised by the South Burnett's police and Kingaroy Rotary Club will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy fom 6:30pm to around 1:00am this evening. The Ball is a fundraiser to help equip two palliative care units at the Orana nursing home, and also to celebrate the 150th anniversary of policing in Queensland. Tickets are $100 each or $900 per table of 10 and are strictly limited to 300. Guests at this fully licensed event will get to enjoy an alternate drop three course dinner and great live entertainment. Tickets can be obtained from the Kingaroy Police Station in Alford Street, Kingaroy.
Debbie Robertson - Kingaroy

Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway
The South Burnett Speedway will be roaring into life at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 4:00pm this afternoon for another great night of thrills, spills and high-octane racing. The major events at tonight's meeting will be the ACMA Nationals Queensland Title and the Lightning Sprints Queensland Title, but there'll also be other categories, including Modified Sedans, Street Stocks and Formula 500s. Admission prices are $25 for adults, $15 for students and pensioners (bring your ID) or $65 for a family pass (2 adults plus three students), but under-12s can get in for free. Moonlight Karaoke - Kingaroy
A Moonlight Karaoke Night will be held at the Club Hotel at the corner of Kingaroy and Alford Streets from 8:00pm until late tonight. The hotel is under new management and is in the process of being renovated. Admission is free. More details? Phone Mitch on (07) 4162-2204.
Saturday Soccer - Murgon and Kingaroy
The third round of the South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League competition will kick off this afternoon at Murgon and Kingaroy. In Murgon, Barambah United will play Gunners at the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Streett, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 1:30pm; Women's Division playing at 3:15pm; and 1st Division concluding the day at 5:00pm. And in Kingaroy, Wests will take on the Nanango Panthers at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with 2nd Division playing at 2:00pm; Women's Division at 3:30pm; and 1st Division at 5:00pm. A bar and canteen will be running at both venues, admission is free and spectators and supporters are very welcome! Note: After today's matches the competition will be taking a two-week break for the Easter school holidays. Matches will resume on Saturday, April 26.
Dance - Tablelands Hall
A dance (and dance lessons, if you need them) will be held at Tablelands Hall from 6:30pm until late tonight (supper is served at 6:30pm; dancing will follow afterwards). The dance will feature old time and new vogue numbers and admission includes the supper. Entry is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $2.50 for anyone else. Everyone is welcome! South Burnett Cricket A-Grade Grand Final
The South Burnett's 2013-14 A-Grade cricket competition will play its Grand Final today when Kingaroy RSL take on the Murgon Crusaders at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 11:30am onwards. Today's match will wrap up a cricket season which has produced some pretty good clashes and very exciting cricket. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Chattanooga and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a big Lucky Door draw. Saturday Rugby League - Wondai & Kingaroy
Round 3 of the South Burnett's 2014 rugby league season will be played largely in Mundubbera today, with the Mustangs, Stags and Red Ants teams taking on Gayndah, Theodore and Mundubbera in a triple-header. In the South Burnett, the Cherbourg Hornets will take on the Monto Roos at 2:30pm at Wondai Sportsgrounds followed by a scratch match at 4:00pm between the Wondai Wolves and a Barbarians team made up of Cherbourg and Wondai players. The A-Grade match will be preceded by junior games between the Hornets and the Wondai Wolves: U6s 9:00am; U8s 10:00am; U10s 11:00am; U12s noon; and U16s 1:00pm). And in Kingaroy, junior Red Ants will play junior Nanango Stags at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street: U6s 9:00am; U8s 9:00am; Mustangs U8s 10:00am; U10s 11:00am; U10s noon; U12s 10:00am; U14s 11:00am; and U16s noon. Admission to either of the grounds is $2 for the junior games and $5 for the senior games and a canteen will be in operation. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!

The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street. from 8:00am to around mid-day today.
