58th Annual Proston Show
- The 58th annual Proston Show will be held at Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road just west of town from 6:00am this morning through until around 10:00pm tonight. The Proston Show is always a big event in the western South Burnett and today's activities will get underway with horse-riding events, stud cattle judging and competitions for junior judges and young handlers shortly after the gates open. This will be followed a Championship Dog Show kicking off at around 8:30am; and then with show jumping, poultry judging and prime trade cattle judging at 9:00am. Then at 9:30am there'll be wood-chopping and post-ripping, including the famous Proston Post-Ripping Challenge that's always fun to see. This will be followed at 11:00am with the presentation of the Prime Trade Show Awards, and then the Proston Stockman's Classic at noon. The official opening and Miss Showgirl presentation will be held at 1:30pm and this will be followed by the Grand Parade at 2:00pm along with more award presentations, including Stud Beef Grand Champion. Other great things to look out for at this year's Show include dodgem cars, Willie the Worm, a slide and a jumping castle, face-painting and Viv's Farm animals featuring a pet parade for the young at heart. The evening's entertainment will feature whip cracking, a Young Farmers' Challenge, fireworks and musical entertainment by the Stepping Stones. In addition, the Show Society will be running a canteen, BBQ and bar from 10:00am onwards. Admission to today's Show is just $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $3 for primary school students (under-5s are admitted free). 20th Annual Yarraman Horse Ride
- The Yarraman Agricultural Society's 20th annual Yarraman Horse Ride will be held in and around Yarraman today. The Ride is the second-biggest in the region (the other is the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride) and this year's event will feature a 22km ride around the Yarraman district, which will leave the Showgrounds around 8:00am and return at around 4:45pm. In the evening, it will be followed by a BBQ dinner and a programme of live entertainment which will run until around midnight, along with a bar. Admission to the Ride is $20 (which includes morning tea and lunch) and there'll be free overnight camping facilities and hot showers available at the Showgrounds too. Riders and spectators are both very welcome. Note: The ride is suitable for all ages, but no stallions or dogs are allowed to take part.
Murgon Junior Rugby League Golf Day
- The Murgon Mustangs Junior Rugby League club will be holding a Golf Day at the Murgon Golf Club on the Bunya Highway north of town today. The event will take the form of a 9-hole, 3 person ambrose with a shot gun start at 1:00pm (names in by 12:00 noon). Green fees are $20 per head, which includes a burger, and to help plan the catering an RSVP to Candice on 0439-829-455 would be appreciated. Today's event is a fundraiser for the rugby league club and everyone is welcome.
Rugby League - Nanango
- The Cherbourg Hornets will be playing an A Grade trial game against the Nanango Stags tonight from 6:00pm at Fred Kassulke Oval in Nanango. This is an opportunity to check out the Stags' 2016 line-up. All welcome!
The Kennel Jam Session - Hivesville
- The Hivesville Hotel will be holding its first Saturday of the month Kennel Jam Session from 5:00pm until late this evening. This monthly get-together is for musicians of all ages and all genres, as well as fans of live music. Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway
- The Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway will be racing at their track inside the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon and evening. Today's meeting will feature Modified Sedans competing in Round 3 of the IBRP Golden Helmet Series, and there'll also be Street Stocks, National 4s and Junior Sedans (the juniors will be competing in Round 3 of the Jonic Motors Allstars Series). The main gate will open at 2:00pm and the pedals will hit the metal at 5:00pm. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for concessions. Under 12s are free, and a canteen will be operating on site. Seed To Feed Workshop - Yarraman
- Brian Sams will be holding a $5 per head "Seed To Feed" workshop in Yarraman from 9:00am to 12:00 noon this morning. The workshop will show you how to grow your own fruits and vegetables in backyard gardens, patches and pots, and guests should bring along sensible shoes and a water bottle. Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Club Race Day
- The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding their first Race Day for 2016 in the Kingaroy McDonalds Race Series today. Racing will be in Peewee, 125cc and 250cc classes at the club's track inside main ring at the Kingaroy Showgrounds (entry is via Avoca Street). Junior Soccer Development Program - Kingaroy
- The Brisbane Roar Active Program will be coming to Kingaroy today and tomorrow to run a two-day clinic for young soccer players aged 5-12. The weekend clinic costs $60 per child, and bookings can be made online.
International Women's Day Charity Dinner - Kingaroy
- Quota International Kingaroy will be holding an International Women's Day Dinner at the Kingaroy Senior Citizens Centre at the corner of Avoca and Kingaroy Streets in Kingaroy (just opposite SupaIGA) from 6:00pm this evening. Roxanne Innes from the Hear and Say Centre will be a special guest speaker, and funds raised tonight will be donated to the Hear and Say Centre, which assists deaf children. Basstastic Bass Tournament - BP Dam
- A Round One qualifier for this year's Basstastic Bass Tournament will be held at Yallakool Tourist Park on Bjelke-Petersen Dam north of Murgon today and tomorrow.
