South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
2016 Murgon Show
The 2016 Murgon Show will get underway at 9:00am this morning when judges descend on the pavilions to judge this year's entries. There will be no public admittance to Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street while this takes place. However the gates will open to the public at 4:00pm this afternoon for $10 monster truck rides (which will continue to 9:00pm - see entry further below on this page). And at 6:00pm there'll be a Stud Beef Young Handlers Competition, followed by a Young Judges Competition and a Prime Cattle Young Judges Competition to which spectators are welcome. A bar and canteen will be running this evening as well, and there's no admission charge to get into the grounds. The Show's main day - for which there will be an admission charge - occurs tomorrow. Elders Backyard Barbecue - Cherbourg
Country music stars Roger Knox and Chad Morgan will be joining local band Muddy Flats live on stage at the rear of Radio 4UM Us Mob's studios tonight. The evening of music will get underway at 5:00pm.
Friday Afternoon Scroungers - Nanango
The Nanango Bowls Club in Henry Street will be holding their regular Friday Afternoon Scroungers matches at 3:00pm today. A $5 match fee applies and new players are very welcome. More details from the club: (07) 4163-3363.
Maidenwell Folk Gathering
The first day of the twice-a-year Maidenwell Folk Gathering will be held in and around the historic Maidenwell Hotel in Maidenwell today, kicking off at around 1:00pm and running late into the night. This is an all-acoustic event and a variety of performers will be entertaining on the hotel's balconies and inside rooms. Admission to the Folk Festival is completely free and musicians are welcome as well as people who just like to listen to music. There's also free overnight camping available in the hotel's grounds. Stressbusters Nanango Meeting
The Nanango Stressbusters group will be holding its latest bi-monthly meeting at Taras Hall in Henry Street, Nanango from 7:00pm until around 9:00pm this evening. Stressbusters focus on the many different types of stresses that can afflict people in modern life, and looks at different ways they can be dealt with. Each meeting features a guest speaker and some light entertainment, and looks at a different stress-related topic. Everyone is welcome along! More details? Seniors Having A Ball - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding a "Seniors Having A Ball" exercise class from 8:30am to 9:30am this morning. The program is designed to address the issues that many have with ageing and it's not just for seniors! It provides light exercise to keep the heart and joints moving, improving coordination and mobility. It also provides a beginner platform to start any fitness activity on. As well as physical fitness, it also has a fun social atmosphere too. The class fee is just $4 for PCYC members or $7 for non-members. More details? Kingaroy QCWA Meeting
The Kingaroy branch of the QCWA will be holding their regular 2nd Friday of the month meeting at the QCWA Rooms in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy (just next to Kingaroy RSL) this morning. Friday Morning Bingo - Kingaroy
The Endeavour Foundation will be running bingo games at Kingaroy RSL from 10:00am this morning (eyes down at 10:30am). BGA Agriservices Goomeri Lucerne Hay Competition
BGA Agriservices in Goomeri are running a Lucerne Hay Competition in conjunction with this year's Goomeri Show - and if you want to take part, you'll need to drop off your entry at BGA's car park by 12:00 noon today. Friday Night At The Shed - Nanango
The Shed in Little Drayton Street, Nanango (just next to the Scott Car Park) will be open from 7:30pm until late tonight for local musicians and anyone else who enjoys music to come along, bring their instruments and jam in a relaxed and informal setting (or just sit on the Shed's lounges, listen in and enjoy the wide variety of talent on offer). Monster Truck Rides - Murgon
The Bomb Squad Ride truck will be at the Murgon Show this year, and the truck will be offering rides at the Murgon Showgrounds from 4:00pm to 9:00pm today for anyone aged 3 years or older. Ride tickets are $10 per head and no bookings are necessary. Rides will also be available from 9:00 to 9:00pm tomorrow.
Circuit Fitness Class - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding a Circuit Fitness Class from 4:30pm to 5:30pm this afternoon in their upstairs fitness studio. The class provides a great workout that will help increase strength as well as give you great cardio exercise, and the class fee is just $7 for PCYC members or $15 for non-members. More details? Wesleyan Food Hampers - Nanango
Wesleyan Grace Community Food Hampers will be available at 36 Fitzroy Street, Nanango from 9:00am to 12:00 noon today. Food hampers will be available for $20.
South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items).
