Nanango Races
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their popular XXXX Gold Carrollee Hotel Nanango Cup Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 1:30pm to around 4:30pm this afternoon. Today's meeting will have an "Elegant Black and White" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best black and white outfits to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. The Nanango Cup meeting is a 6-race event and always one of the biggest of the year. But in addition to a bumper field of top-notch horses, another highlight of today's get-together will be the presentation of the club's annual Premiership Awards to the most outstanding trainers, jockeys and horses who've competed on Nanango's track over the previous 12 months. Other special highlights include amusements for children; a lucky racebook prize; plus a few other surprises you'll have to be trackside to see. The club's popular Pink Champagne bar will be running all day too and there'll also be a licensed bar and BBQ; bookmakers and an on-course tote. Buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Carrollee Hotel (at noon) and Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:15pm), and the Nanango RSL at 12:30pm. Gates will open at the track itself at around 12:00 noon so that go-getters can get a head start on the all-important socialising. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under-15s are free) and everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Rosemary on (07) 4163-2346. PS: If you've never been to the Nanango Races before, you can get an idea of what a fun day out they are by reading our report of the club's last meeting in May 2012.
Jesse-Lea Bath Benefit Dinner - Wondai
A black tie benefit dinner will be held at Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 6:30pm to around 11:00pm this evening as a fundraiser for Wondai teenager Jesse-Lea Bath (pictured at right). 12-year-old Jesse-Lea has a port wine birthmark on her face and has been undergoing painful laser treatments to remove it. So far she's undergone two treatments (at $2,000 each) but she needs another eight to completely remove the birthmark. And the proceeds of tonight's dinner will be donated towards the cost of doing this. Tickets are $50 per head (or $450 for a table of 10) and this includes a three-course dinner, entertainment and a fabulous night out. They can be obtained from the Wondai State School, Wondai Hardware and at Radio 89.1 CFM's offices at the corner of Glendon and Alford Streets in Kingaroy; or by phoning 0401-640-233. You can also make donations directly to a bank account set up for the purpose, and details about this can be found on the Benefit's Facebook page.
Carrollee Hotel & Kingaroy Community Kindergarten Race Day
Here's something different! The Carrollee Hotel and the Kingaroy Community Kindergarten will be holding a special Race Day at the Nanango Races today as a fundraiser for the Kindy, who want to build a new playground. Guests at this prestige event will get to enjoy a private marquee to view all the Nanango Cup races (the biggest race meeting of the year), hot and cold finger foods and desserts, and premium beers, wines, champagne, vodka cruisers and soft drinks. They'll also have access to their own private bookie, be entertained by live music and get free bus transport to and from the races as well (buses will leave the Carrollee Hotel in Kingaroy at 11:00am and return at 6:00pm). Tickets are $80 per head - which includes all the above plus entry into to the race track and a race booklet - but there are only 200 so you'll need to book quickly to be certain of a place. You can do this by phoning Jody on (0429) 164-122 or by emailing her. PS: Pomfrets Plumbing had a similar private marqee at May's Nanango race meeting and their guests had a ball!
