Meet The Orchestra Concert - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Community Orchestra (SBCO) will be holding a completely free "Meet The Orchestra" concert at St Johns Lutheran Primary School Hall in Ivy Street, Kingaroy at 3:00pm this afternoon. Guests can get introduced to all the different sounds of a symphony orchestra, talk to musicians from SBCO and learn more about the instruments they play. The concert will feature music from "Pirates Of The Caribbean" (amongst many others) and everyone is welcome! Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
- The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Senior Citizens Centre in Avoca Street, Kingaroy from 6:30am to around 12:00pm today. Vietnam Veterans Day
- Today is Vietnam Veterans Day - formerly known as Long Tan Day in memory of the 17 Australians killed at the battle of Long Tan on the 18th August 1966 when troops from 6th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment engaged a large enemy force there. Vietnam Veterans Day has come to symbolise our nation's memory of the Vietnam War and in the South Burnett special services will be conducted today to mark it. In Kingaroy, a commemoration will be held at the Memorial Park Rotunda off Haly Street, Kingaroy between 10:30am and 11:10am. All members of the public are most welcome to attend, and enquiries regarding the service and/or wreath laying should be directed to Barry Haydon on (07) 4164 7177. Co-organiser Barry Krosch is also keen to make contact with any local Long Tan veterans, with a view to making them special guests for the day. How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be holding their second performance of the evergreen musical comedy classic "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying" at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 7:30pm this evening. The musical is based on Shepherd Mead's 1952 book of the same name, and the story concerns young, ambitious J. Pierrepont Finch who - with the help of the book - rises from window washer to chairman of the board of the World Wide Wicket Company. The original Broadway production opened in October 1961 and went on to win seven Tony Awards, the New York Drama Critics Circle award and the 1962 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society have been rehearsing this latest production for months and if you've never been to an SBMC show, they're an absolute delight and well worth seeing. Tickets to tonight's performance are $20 for adults or $15 for concession card holders and students and they'll be available at the door. Refreshments will also be available before the show starts and during interval. Note: Twor additional evening performances will be held at the same time and venue next Friday and Saturday night, and there'll also be two matinee performances - one tomorrow afternoon, and the other next Saturday afternoon.
Honky Tonks Duo - Kingaroy

Year Of The Farmer Bush Dance - Yarraman
- 2012 is the Year Of The Farmer and a Bush Dance is being held at the Yarraman Community Hall in Browne Street, Yarraman from 6:00pm to 12:00 midnight tonight to celebrate it. Music will be supplied by the acclaimed Ridgee Didge Bush Band who frequent the Jondaryn woolshed and many other venues in south-east Queendsland. All dances are called and demonstrated so no one will have an excuse to not dance! A licensed bar will be operating and there'll be novelties and raffles throughout the night with some fantastic prizes (such as a 5 night getaway in Mooloolaba, Harris Scarfe gift vouchers, an Ariat boot voucher and an Outback Magazine subscription). And for supper, guests are invited to get into the old time spirit and bring along a plate of food to share. Tickets are $25 for a family, $10 for adults and $5 for children. Vine Dining Long Lunch - Moffatdale
- The fourth annual Vine Dining Long Lunch will be returning to Moffatdale today to help fans of the South Burnett's wine industry ring in the Springtime. And if you're looking for a great way to shake off a dreary winter, what better way to do it than by spending the day eating and drinking with friends? This year, Vine Dining will be running at Clovely Estate and Bridgeman Downs Cellars from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Both wineries will have chefs on hand to serve up regional cuisine between 11:00am and 3:00pm. And a free Vine Dining shuttle bus will be running between both wineries throughout the day so you can sample the food, wines and entertainment on offer at each of them. Admission to Vine Dining is $38 which entitles you to a special souvenir wine glass, your first wine of the day, a meal ticket and a dessert/cheese platter ticket as well as your Vine Dining Shuttle Bus pass. After this you can purchase wines by the glass for $5 as you go, or buy a bottle of your choice to share between friends. There'll be coffee, tea and fresh water available at each venue too, along with live entertainment (The Blues Excuse at Bridgeman Downs and Sunshine Coast band X-Session at Clovely Estate). Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

Scots In The Bush - Boondooma
- The second day of a three-day Scots In The Bush Scottish and Celtic Festival will be held at Boondooma Homestead ay 8262 Mundubbera-Durong Road at Boondooma today. The Festival features Scottish pipe bands and dancers, folk singers and poets as well as Scottish food, games and more; and special guests this year include the Noosa Pipe Band; The Clan; and the Rum City Highland Dancers, amongst others. A licensed bar will be running throughout the event and meals will be available too, as well as on-site camping. Tickets for the full three days are $40 per head for adults (which incudes a bush camping site), but you can just attend today for $20 if you prefer. Children are free. More details? Scrapbooking Workshop - Kingaroy
- Caught The Bug at Shop 4 in the Youngman Street Industrial Estate at 119 Youngman Street, Kingaroy will be holding a scrapbooking workshop from 10:00am to 3:00pm today as a fundraiser for Relay For Life. What's On At The Wineries This Weekend
- Apart from Vine Dining at Clovely Estate and Bridgeman Downs Cellars in Moffatdale (see entry further above), all the South Burnett's other wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. Friendship Dance - Kingaroy
- The monthly Friendship Dance will be held at the Kingaroy Senior Citizens Centre in Avoca Street, Kingaroy (opposite Super IGA) at 7:30pm this evening, with music supplied by a local band. 19th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain
- Yes! It's on again and more mind-snapping than ever! The 19th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain will be held at Kumbia Hall on the Bunya Highway in Kumbia from 7:00pm until late this evening (competition commences at 7:30pm sharp). The event - which is the major annual fundraiser for Kumbia State School P&C - is a trivia-style tournament where teams of 6 compete for great cash prizes. Attendees at this year's Brain Drain are being encouraged to dress to the theme "Piston Kumbia Cup" (ie motor car/bike racing) to be in the running for a prize as the best-dressed team. There'll also be the usual fun-filled audience participation games and raffles too. Nibbles, drinks and a hot and cold supper will be provided, but you'll need to BYO esky if you have a righteous thirst that needs specialised attention. Admission is still an incredibly slim $10 per person - minimum age is 15 - and a maximum of 35 teams can take part in the competition. More than $1,000 in prize monies is up for grabs! More details? South Burnett Rugby League - Cherbourg and Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Rugby League will be offering fans another thin weekend this weekend, with forfeits by the Nanango Stags and Murgon Mustangs leaving the Wolves v Timbertowners clash at Cherbourg as the only A-Grade match being played in the region today. The Wolves and Timbertowners will take to the field at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg at 2:30pm. And in junior league, Cherbourg will play Nanango at Cherbourg (the U6's/U8s at 9:30am; the U10s at 10:30am; the U12s at 11:30am; the U14s at 12:30pm; and the U16s at 1:30pm) while in Kingaroy, the Red Ants juniors will play the Murgon Mustangs juniors at T.J. O'Niell Oval (times not available). Meanwhile, two U18s matches will be played in Bundaberg today: Kingarioy vs Eastern Subuerbs at Salter Oval at 11:15am; and Murgon vs Hervey Bay at 12:30pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome.
