Art Exhibition Opening - Nanango
The Winds Of Change Gallery at 8 George Street in Nanango will be opening their first-ever exhibition at 6:00pm this evening. The new exhibition will feature art and pottery by Danielle Lawrence and Karren Bolton, accompanied by wine and finger foods, and will be officially opened by the SBRC's Cr. Barry Green at 7:00pm. There'll also be raffles and a lucky door prize too! Admission is by gold coin donation and everyone is very welcome to attend. More details? Phone the Gallery on (0409) 503-272. Note: This exhibition will remain on show from tonight through until midway through next month. This evening's get-together, though, will be a great chance to meet and talk with the two artists about their work, as well as enjoy the socialising that always accompanies any art gallery's opening night.
Friday Social Golf - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway at Kingaroy will holding their regular Friday 9-ers 9 hole social golfing sessions for men and women from 8:00am until dusk today. Everyone is most welcome (including non-members) and green fees are $11 for members or $14 for non-members for the nine holes - but this also includes a card draw for prizes in the clubhouse in the evening (there's also a Jackpot card draw on the last Friday of each month). How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be holding their first performance of the evergreen musical comedy classic "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying" at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 7:30pm this evening. The musical is based on Shepherd Mead's 1952 book of the same name, and the story concerns young, ambitious J. Pierrepont Finch who - with the help of the book - rises from window washer to chairman of the board of the World Wide Wicket Company. The original Broadway production opened in October 1961 and went on to win seven Tony Awards, the New York Drama Critics Circle award and the 1962 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society have been rehearsing this latest production for months and if you've never been to an SBMC show, they're an absolute delight and well worth seeing. Tickets to tonight's South Burnett debut are $20 for adults or $15 for concession card holders and students and they'll be available at the door. Refreshments will also be available before the show starts and during interval. Note: Three additional evening performances will be held at the same time and venue tomorrow night and next Friday and Saturday, and there'll also be two matinee performances - one this Sunday afternoon, and the other next Saturday afternoon.
Scots In The Bush - Boondooma Homestead
The first day of a three-day Scots In The Bush Scottish and Celtic Festival will be held at Boondooma Homestead ay 8262 Mundubbera-Durong Road at Boondooma today. The Festival features Scottish pipe bands and dancers, folk singers and poets as well as Scottish food, games and more; and special guests this year include the Noosa Pipe Band; The Clan; and the Rum City Highland Dancers, amongst others. A licensed bar will be running throughout the event and meals will be available too, as well as on-site camping. Tickets for the full three days are $40 per head for adults (which incudes a bush camping site), but you can just attend today for $10 if you prefer. Children are free. More details? Karaoke Night - Proston
The South Burnett Lively 50s & 60s Singles Social Group will be holding a Karaoke Night at the Golden Spurs Hotel in Blake Street, Proston from 7:00pm until late this evening. Blue Light Disco - Murgon
The seventh Murgon Blue Light Disco for primary school age children for 2012 will be held at the Diggers Rooms in the Murgon Services Club in Lamb Street, Murgon between 6:30pm and 8:30pm this evening. The $4 admission fee includes a hot dog dinner and there'll be some great prizes to be won as well. Blue Light discos are drug, alcohol and tobacco free and are fully supervised by local police, Apexians, Lions and other volunteers. The Nanango Writers Association will be meeting at the Nanango Theatre at the corner of George and Elk Streets, Nanango from 9:00am to 12:00 noon this morning. The Fitzroy Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango will be holding a Pool Competition at 8:00pm tonight.
