Golf & Barefoot Bowls Fun Day - Wondai
The Wondai Kindergarten will be holding their annual Golf And Barefoot Bowls Fun Day at the Wondai Country Club on the Bunya Highway in Wondai from 9:00am onwards this morning. Golfers can tee off in a 3-person ambrose over 9 holes at 9:00am sharp for just $10 per person. There'll be prizes for the Winning Team, Runner-up, NTP, Longest Dtive and Wooden Spoon. But if you prefer bowls (or think that too much sport is barely enough), you can take off your shoes and take part in 3-person team bowls competitions from 1:00pm (again, for just $10 per head) to compete for the Winner, Run-Up and Wooden Spoon team prizes. A BBQ lunch will be available in between the golf and the bowls as well as a free afternoon tea at around 2:00pm. And children under 5 can play for free too. You can nominate a team in advance by phoning Kellie on (0408) 450-161 or by emailing her. But you can also just turn up on time today - or preferably, a little before time - and nominate on the spot. Everyone's welcome and all proceeds will go to support the Wondai Kindy.
Yarraman Markets - Yarraman
The Yarraman Progress Association's monthly Yarraman Markets will be held at Errol Munt Oval in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls and an under-cover play area for children. Seafood Buffet - Murgon
Sakina's Seafood Buffet - which is held on the 2nd Saturday of each month - will be running at the Saleyard Cafe on Gayndah Road at Murgon at 6:30pm this evening. This BYO buffet offers everything from fresh oysters to Moreton Bay bugs, crabs, prawns and cooked seafoods, but bookings are essential if you want to be sure of a seat: (07) 4168-5701.
Markets In The Garden - Kumbia
Kumbia's new Markets In The Garden will be held in Bell Street, Kumbia from 7:00am to around 1:00pm today. These markets are now held on the second Saturday of each month and feature fresh fruit and vegies, jewellery, childerens furniture and toys, plants, hairdresser dolls and bears, bric-a-brac and collectables amongst many other things. There's also live music, face painting for children, a variety of free workshops and even a sausage sizzle! New stallholders are also very welcome. More details? Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowling Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
South Burnett Rugby League - Kingaroy, Wondai and Murgon
The Kingaroy Red Ants and Nanango Stags will be playing this week's round of the South Burnett Premier League on the Red Ants' home grounds at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. The U6s will take to the Training Field at 9:30am, and they'll be followed there by the U8s at 10:30am. On the Main Field, the U10s will kick off at 10:00am; the U12s at 11:00am; the U14s at noon; the U16s at 1:00pm; and the U18s at 2:00pm. However, there will be no A-Grade game today because the Nanango Stags have forfeited the match. Meanwhile - in Wondai - the Cherbourg Hornets will play the Wondai Wolves at the Wondai Sports Grounds. The U6s will play at 9:30am; the U8s at 10:30am; the U10s at 11:30am; the U12s at 12:30pm; the U14s at 1:30pm; and the A-Grade match will take place at 2:30pm. And in Murgon, the Murgon Mustangs will take on Central Burnett and the Blackbutt Timbertowners today (there'll be two shortened games this week for the 7s, 8s and 10s). The U7s and U8s will play at 9:30am; the U10s at 10:30am; the U12s at 11:30am; the U14s at 12:30pm and the U16s at 1:30pm. There will be no A-Grade game today, though, because the Mustangs have forfeited the match. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
South Burnett Soccer - Kingaroy
The 15th round of the Evolution Solar Soccer League will be played out in Kingaroy today and in Murgon tomorrow. In Kingaroy, 2nd division Gunners will play Wests at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street at 2:00pm. This will be followed by a clash between the womens' teams at 3:30pm, and then the 1st Division match between Gunners and Wests at 5:00pm. Spectators and supporters are most welcome! Note: Because of the EKKA long weekend there won't be any junior soccer matches played this weekend. Junior soccer will return next Saturday, August 18th.
Saturday Rugby Union - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Thrashers will be playing their seventh home game for this season - and also their final one - at St Mary's Oval in John Street, Kingaroy (behind Kingaroy Hospital) at 1:30pm this afternoon when they come up against Roma. The Thrashers have had a bit of a punishing season this year, but they've exhibited a dogged determination and a steady level of improvement that would make any South Burnrett resident proud. This being so, spectators and supporters are very welcome to come and cheer the home team on as they try to end the current season on a high note.
What's On At The Wineries This Weekend
The South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. Open Mic Night - Murgon
The Murgon Golf Club off the Bunya Highway in Murgon will be holding the semi-finals and finals of their "Open Mic Night" from 6:30pm onwards this evening. For the last few months lotsz of talented locals have been performing in the competition's heats, and tonight Hedley Fisher, Tony R. and Jeff Hancox will be performing in the last semi-final, with one of them going on to join Reuben Vandenberg Dodt (Year 11 KSHS), Sarah Parsons (Year 12 KSHS), Indigo Vandenberg Dodt (Year 10 KSHS) and Rowan Edwards in the finals. Liam Parsons, Dr Daz and Clowry and the "G Club" House Band will also be performing, so it looks like being a truly all-star night! Dinner will be available at the club this evening too. Kumbia QCWA 90th Birthday Garden Party
The Kumbia QCWA are celebrating their 90th birthday this year, and today they'll be holding a Garden Party at Marion Mudra's home at 30 Pauls Parade in Ellesmere from 9:00am onwards to mark the occasion. There'll be three special guest speakers, photography and a hat competiton, and all past and present branch members and anyone else who'd like to attend are very welcome. More details? Pre-Muster Party - Widgee
The Widgee Country Music Club will be holding a Pre-Muster Party (ie pre Gympie Country Music Muster) at Thorneside Homestead in Widgee from 12:00 noon today until late tonight. Thre event will get underway with walk-up artists and they'll be followed with special guest artists including The Albrechts, Mitchell Steele, Liv Young, Ron E Jay, Karen Thomsen and The Webb Brothers. A sausage sizzle, steak burgers and a licensed bar will be operating all day but you should BYO chair or blanket for seating. There's also free overnight camping if you want to stay on for a $5 hot breakfast that will be available on Sunday morning. The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Haly and Glendon Streets in Kingaroy will be holding an "Olympic Gold" party tonight.
