Kumbia Country Markets
The second Kumbia Country Markets for 2012 (run by the Kumbia Hall Committee) will be held in Bell Street and the precincts of the Kumbia Hall from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. The markets feature homemade gifts, fashions, fresh fruit and vegies, plants and crafts and a sausage sizzle will be operating too! Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Maidenwell's historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding another of their popular monthly Pig On A Spit evenings from 6:00pm until late tonight tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment and lots of cold beer, as well as more pork than you can possibly poke a stick at. The hotel's Pig On A Spit nights are held on the last Saturday of every month and they're always a lot of fun! The cost is only $12.50 for adults and $6.50 for children. More information? South Burnett Rugby League Triple Header - Cherbourg
The 11th Round of the South Burnett Premier League will be played at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg today. Today's games will be an A-grade triple header, kicking off with the Kingaroy red Ants vs the Blackbutt Timbertowners at 12:00 noon. This will be followed by a clash between the Nanango Stags and Wondai Wolves at 1:30pm, and then the undefeated Cherbourg Hornets will take on the Murgon Mustangs at 3:00pm. Entry fee to see this terrific afternoon of footy is $5 and spectators and supporters are most welcome! Note: Because of school holidays there won't be any junior games today; and the U18s match will be held at Biggenden. UPDATE 11:00am Saturday June 30: Nanango forfeited their match against Wondai today after being unable to raise the necessary numbers for a team. Their 1:30pm game against the Wolves has been cancelled.
Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall from 7:30pm until around 11:30pm this evening. Music will be supplied by a local band and there'll be the usual great supper, novelties and lucky door prize. Craig Lowndes - Kingaroy
If you missed seeing V8 Supercar driver Craig Lowndes when he appeared at the Ford vs Holden Day held in Cooyar at the start of this month, you can get another chance if you go to Tyrepower at 188 Kingaroy Street in Kingaroy between 10:00am and 2:00pm today. Tyrepower are celebrating their 35th anniversary this year, and Craig will be appearing there as part of the celebrations. There'll also be 10% ioff all Tyrepower gear all day today, as well as a huge mag wheel display and sale if you're in the market for new tyres.
Kilkivan Stock Horse Futurity & Ute Show
A Stock Horse Futurity and Ute Show will be held at Kilkivan Showgrounds in Kilkivan from 7:30am this morning through until sunset today (and also tomorrow from 8:00am until late afternoon). The Futurity will focus on Australian stock horses and organisers expect a good roll-up that will please most horse fanciers. And after the day's activities wind down, there'll be live entertainment from Bruce McGilvery, along with roast dinners prepared by the Kilkivan P&C and other assorted campfire entertainment. The Kilkivan Showgrounds were almost wiped out in the January 2011 floods, but after 18 months of intensive reconstruction they're looking very spruce and modern these days. So if you'd like to camp there over the weekend, you can do so at no charge. There's also no charge to view the Futurity or the Ute Show, and everyone is welcome along. More details? Goomeri Beef Bonanza
The Goomeri Show Society will be playing host to the 2012 South Burnett Sub Chamber Finals at the Goomeri Showgrounds all day today. The judging of the Beef Bonanza will see the showing of some of the best stud cattle around, but there'll also be a Young Judges competition and the State Ute Muster Series too. Food and drinks will be available all day, and the Beef Bonanza will be followed in the evening by Dark Rich Fruit Cake judging and a Presentation Dinner at Goomeri Hall of Memory, commencing at 6:30pm with pre-dinner drinks for 7:00pm sit-down. This will be a fully licensed, formal attire affair and tickets are $20 per person for 3 course meal (bookings are essential by 22nd June). The winners of the Sub-Chamber events will be announced at the dinner, including Miss Showgirl and Rural Ambassador (all candidates were interviewed today at Boonara Homestead).
What's On At The Wineries This Weekend
The South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
