Murgon SES Support Group Annual Golf Day
- The Murgon SES Support Group will be holding their annual Golf Day at the Murgon Golf Course off the Bunya Highway, Murgon from 7:00am until late this afternoon (last tee-off is at 1:30pm). This popular annual fundraiser is a 9 hole, 3 person ambrose and it doesn't matter whether you've played golf before or not - everyone's welcome! The $15 green fee includes a BBQ lunch and drink, and there'll be some great prizes on offer as well as a BBQ and auction afterwards. Proceeds of the day will go to aid the Murgon SES, who do a terrific job of helping keep everyone safe in the Murgon area. More details? Phone Grant on (0458) 425-146. Note: This event was originally scheduled for March but had to be called off at the last minute due to heavy rain. Nanango Country Markets
- The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Nanango Army Cadets Car Boot Sale
- The Nanango Army Cadets will be holding a Car Boot Sale at Tipperary Flat off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 8:00am to around 2:00pm today as a fundraiser. You can run a car boot sale or a stall at today's event for a slim $10 and any type of stall is welcome. There'll also be a sausage sizzle, tea, coffee and cold drinks available on site as well as a cake stall selling delicious home-made cakes and slices. Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Capt. Dance - Inverlaw Hall
- A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Chattenooga and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a big Lucky Door draw. Ford v Holden Day - Cooyar
- A Ford vs Holden Day Show & Shine will be held at Swinging Bridge Park behind the Cooyar Hotel in Cooyar all day today. Well-known V8 Supercar drivers Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup will be putting in an appearance with their Triple-8 racing cars, and cars once driven by racing legends Peter Brock and Allan Moffatt will also be on show, as well as heaps of well-shined Holdens and Fords. Entry to the Show & Shine is $10 for exhibitors and $5 for spectators (or a gold coin donation for children under 15). All proceeds will go to aid the RACQ Careflight Helicopter Rescue Service. South Burnett Rugby League
- The 7th Round of the South Burnett Premier League will be played this weekend at Nanango, Murgon and Mundubbera, with an A-Grade double-header at Nanango's Stag's Oval looking like the pick of this weekend's matches. In Nanango, Nanango (J&S) v Cherbourg (J&S) and Blackbutt Juniors, with the U6s & U8s (round robin) at 9:00am; U10s (round robin) at 10:30am; U12s at noon; U14s at 1:00pm; and U16s at 2:00pm. Then the Blackbutt Timbertowners will play the Wondai Wolves at 3:30pm, followed by the Stags taking on the Hornets at 5:15pm. In Murgon, Murgon will play Kingaroy with the U6s at 8:30am; U8s at 9:30am; U10s 10:30am; U18s 11:30am; U12s 12:35pm; U14s 1:35pm; U16s 2:35pm; and the A Grade clash between the Mustangs and Red Ants at 3:35pm. Meanwhile in Mundubbera, Central Burnett will play Wondai with the U6s at 11.00am; U8s noon; U10s 1:00pm; U12s 2:00pm; U14s 3:00pm; and U16s a bye. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
South Burnett Soccer
- The 7th round of the Evolution Solar Soccer League will be played out in Kingaroy and Nanango today. In Nanango, the 2nd division Nanango team will take on Gunners at the Nanango Soccer Grounds at 12:30pm. This will be followed by the women's division where Nanango will clash with Gunners at 1:50pm; and then the 1st division match between Nanango and Gunners at 3:00pm. Meanwhile in Kingaroy, 2nd division Kingaroy Wests will play Barambah at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street at 2:00pm. This will be followed by a clash between the Wests and Barambah in the women's division at 3:15pm, and then the first grade game between Wests and Barambah at 5:00pm. Meanwhile, this weekend's junior matches will be played at the Nanango Soccer Grounds. Games will commence at 8:00am this morning for all junior divisions and continue on into the afternoon. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
- The Kingaroy Bowling Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
What's On At The Wineries This Weekend
- The South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. Dance - Manumbar Hall
- A dance will be held at Manumbar Hall from 7:30pm until late tonight. Music will be supplied by Mark's Music and there'll also be a great supper and raffle. Admission is $10 for adults, $3 for high school students and everyone is welcome.
South Burnett Western Performance Club Show - Nanango
- Like horse-riding? The South Burnett Western Performance Club will be holding the first day of a weekend-long combined Show and Futurity at the Equestrian Centre in Racecourse Road, Nanango from 8:00am this morning until late this afternoon. Today's event will be a 3-judge show featuring Western Performance and English Performance horse riding across a large number of categories. Tomorrow's Futurity and Classic Show will offer prizes and prize money for competitors, along with a big raffle to help the club raise funds for toilet and shower blocks at the Centre (the current focus of their fundraising efforts). The weekend-long event is the club's biggest annual get-together and routinely draws competitors from all over south-east Queensland. Everyone is welcome!
