Nanango Autumn Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual Autumn Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today. Today's races will have a "Great Gatsby Gangsters & Glamour Girls" theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best vintage outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. The race club's popular Pink Champagne Bar will be serving up platters all day if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; children will be well catered for with face-painting and ice creams; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. This meeting patrons can also enjoy two mini-grandstands that will be erected on the grounds, plus some great new trackside seating courtesy of the Nanango Men's Shed - but if it rains there's heaps of undercover seating too. A lot of people like to use the Autumn race meeting for relaxed get-togethers, and you're welcome to picnic on the lawns or even bring your own marquee if you like. This will be a 5-race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and the Nanango RSL at 12:30pm. The meeting usually gets into full swing around 1:00pm but gates will open at 10:00am so that go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under-15s are free). Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Rosemary on (07) 4163-2346 or email her.
Heritage Bank Nanango Film Festival
The second day of the three-day 2016 Heritage Bank Nanango Film Festival will kick off at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango at 11:00am this morning with a screening "Last Cab To Darwin" (M), a bittersweet comedy about a dying Broken Hill cab driver who sets out on an epic journey to Darwin in a bid to die on his own terms. The film stars famous Australian actor Michael Caton in the lead role, and he'll be on hand to talk about the film after the screening and sign autographs. At 2:00pm the Festival will screen "Broke" (MA15 ) about a disgraced sports star with a gambling addiction who attempts to turn his life around with the support of his number one fan and his daughter. And then at 6:30pm, the Festival will hold its annual Gala Fundraiser for local charities, complete with drinks, nibbles, a chocolate fountain and a screening of "Looking For Grace" (M), an intimate, funny and profoundly moving story about chance, fate and the complexities of family life. Tickets to each of the daytime screenings are $5, and tickets to the Gala Fundraiser are $20. Tickets are available at South Burnett Regional Council Offices, by phoning them on (07) 4189-9100, or from Thorps Showcase Jewellers in Kingaroy Shoppingworld. You can also read more about this year's Festival and see video trailers of all the great Aussie films that will be screening this year on our website.
Kingaroy Lions Trail Ride
The first day of the weekend-long Kingaroy Lions Trail Ride will be held at Weens Road north of Kingaroy (look for the signs) from 8:30am this morning through until late this afternoon. It's a non-competitive trail ride open to all classes of dirt bikes (no quads), and has been moved to a new location this year to keep it interesting for regulars. The Ride features Pee Wee, Novice and Open tracks and it's always a lot of fun. Free camping with hot showers and toilets is available from Friday night onwards, as well as on-site food catering from Friday night through to Sunday at 1:30pm. There's also a licensed bar running Friday and Saturday between 4:30pm and 9:00pm; a great afternoon tea on offer today provided by the QCWA; $5 mechanical bull rides tonight; and a raffle too. Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Neil on (0478) 831-567, join the Ride's Facebook group or email the organisers.

Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy, Wondai, Cherbourg
Kingaroy and Cherbourg will be offering rugby league fans two A-grade matches today, so they'll be spoiled for choice. In Kingaroy, the Red Ants will be holding a Cancer Pink Day (so expect to see lots of pink in the grounds) and the action will kick off at 10:00am when the U6s, U8s and U10s play Central Burnett. They will be followed by the U12s at 11:00am, then the U14s at noon and the U16 Whites at 1:00pm. At 2:15pm, the Red Ants U16 Reds will play Dalby; and then at 3:30pm the U18 Whites will play Gatton. This will be followed by the A-grade clash between the Red Ants and Mundubbera at 5:00pm. Meanwhile, in Wondai, the U6s/U8s Wolves will play Murgon at 9:00am, followed by the U10s at 10:00am and the U12s at 11:00am. Then at noon, the U14s will take on Chinchilla Green. And over in Cherbourg, the U6s/U8s will hit the grounds at 9:00am to play Nanango, followed by the U10s at 10:00am and U12s at 11:00am. At noon, Nanango's U14s will play Chinchilla; and at 1:00pm the Hornets U14s will play Murgon. They'll be followed at 2:00pm by the U16s, and at 3:00pm by the U18 Blues before the A-grade clash between the Hornets and Eidsvold at 4:30pm. A canteen will be running at all three venues and spectators are very welcome!
Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy

In Nanango, Nanango's Panthers will play Wests in 2nd Division at 12:30pm; Women's Division at 2:00pm; and 1st Division at 3:15pm at the Nanango Soccer Grounds in Burnett Street. And in Kingaroy, Gunners will play Barambah in 2nd Division at 2:00pm, Women's Division at 3:30pm and 1st Division at 5:00pm. Kingaroy Scouts 10th Annual Show & Shine
The Kingaroy Scout Group will be holding their 10th annual Show and Shine at the Scout Den in James Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am today as a fundraiser for the troop. Adults can get to enjoy lots of food and drink stands along with a licensed bar - and the winners of this year's event will be announced at around 2:00pm. Admission to today's meet is $5 for adults (under-15s are free) and everyone is welcome.
Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints mens and womens sides will be playing the South Toowoomba Bombers at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today. The women's side will take to the field at 1:00pm and the men's side will play at 2:50pm. The Saints men's team are coming off two lossses - to Coolaroo and University Cougars - so they'll be revved up to secure a win in front of the home crowd. But it will be a tough match, given the Bombers currently sit at 2nd place on the ladder and Saints at 5th. The Saints women's side, who've shown a lot of improvement this season, will be keen to do well, too - and the margin between them (5th) and the Bombers (4th) is a lot closer. So if you're an AFL fan, these should be a particularly good pair of matches to watch. A bar and canteen will be in operation and spectators are very welcome!
Graeme Jensen - Nanango
Popular country-rock performer Graeme Jensen will be performing at the Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 6:30pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4163-1375.
