Goomeri Pumpkin Festival
The 20th Annual Goomeri Pumpkin Festival will be held in Goomeri from 6:00am this morning through until around 5:00pm this afternoon. As usual, the 2016 Pumpkin Festival will feature a wide range of market and novelty stalls; all-day live entertainment; Giant Pumpkin and Best Decorated Pumpkin competitions; and the Great Australian Pumpkin Roll down Policeman's Hill at around 2:00pm in the afternoon with a Lucky Spot prize of $1000 and lots of other cash prizes for section winners. Other things to look out for include cooking demonstrations; live entertainment; antique car and bike displays; billy tea, damper and stew in Dickinson Park (along with an all-day BBQ and lots and lots of food stalls); market stalls in the streets; roving entertainers; and more. Kilkivan Markets
The weekly Kilkivan Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. Heritage Bank Nanango Film Festival
The third and final day of the 2016 Heritage Bank Nanango Film Festival will kick off at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango at 10:00am this morning with a screening "Oddball" (G), a comedy about a dog that rescues a penguin colony. This will be followed at 1:00pm with "A Month Of Sundays" starring Anthony LaPaglia as a newly-divorced real estate agent whose life has descended into chaos, before a 3:00pm screening of "The Daughter" (M), a suspenseful drama about a man who returns to his hometown for his father’s wedding and unearths a long-buried secret that threatens to shatter lives. Tickets to each of the daytime screenings are $5 and are available at South Burnett Regional Council Offices, by phoning them on (07) 4189-9100, or from Thorps Showcase Jewellers in Kingaroy Shoppingworld. Sunday Social Bowls - Yarraman
The Yarraman Bowls Club in Margaret Street, Yarraman will be hosting their regular Sunday social bowls games from 1:00pm this afternoon. Teams will be club selected and new players are very welcome! More details from the club: (07) 4163-8269.
Kingaroy Lions Trail Ride
The second (and final) day of the weekend-long Kingaroy Lions Trail Ride will be held at Weens Road north of Kingaroy (look for the signs) from 8:30am this morning through until late this afternoon. This annual 2-day event is a fundraiser for the Kingaroy Lions and Careflight and last year attracted more than 600 riders. It's a non-competitive trail ride open to all classes of dirt bikes (no quads), and has been moved to a new location this year to keep it interesting for regulars. The Ride features Pee Wee, Novice and Open tracks and it's always a lot of fun. Free camping with hot showers and toilets is available from Friday night onwards, as well as on-site food catering from Friday night through to 1:30pm today. There's also a raffle too. Rock & Roll Dance Lessons - Nanango
Rock & Roll Dance Lessons will be held at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango from 1:00pm to 3:00pm this afternoon. The cost for a 2-hour lesson is $10 and beginners are very welcome. Classes are being held fortnightly in preparation for this year's Waterhole Rocks rock & roll festival on October 14-16, and you can read more about them (and see videos) on our website.
Bunya Mountains Markets
The monthly Bunya Mountains Markets will be running at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains today. The markets feature up to 30 stands selling quality, locally-produced fresh produce, arts and crafts and they'll be operating from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Local cafes like Poppies On The Hill and The Bunya Mountains Cafe will be offering special Market Day menus and morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas, and walking trail maps will be available from both cafes, the Bunya Mountains General Store and market stalls if you'd like to take a walk through the adjoining National Park.
South Burnett Orchid Society
The South Burnett Orchid Society will be holding their regular monthly meeting at the South Burnett Youth Park in Somerset Street, Kingaroy from 2:00pm onwards this aftenoon. The Society exists for orchid enthusiasts of all skill levels and meets on the last Sunday of every month except December. New members and visitors are always very welcome. More details? Timbertown Woodworkers Group - Blackbutt
The Timbertown Woodworkers group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:30am until around 12:00 noon today.
