2016 Reconciliation Fun Run

The 3rd annual Reconciliation Fun Run will be run between Murgon and Cherbourg this morning, kicking off at 8:00am at the Murgon Showgrounds and proceeding along the highway and Cherbourg Road (which will be closed to traffic for the event) to the Ration Shed Museum at Barambah Avenue in Cherbourg, where it will be followed by a party with games, foods, dance, music, stalls, workshops and displays. The Reconciliation Fun Run is open to everyone, from school children to adults, older people, families, people with disabilities, sporting clubs or corporate/workplace teams. The 7 km course can be run, walked or travelled in a pram or wheelchair. The aim of the day is for participants and spectators to have fun and the last two Fun Runs drew raves from everyone who attended. Online registrations can be made on the Ration Shed's website or you can phone (07) 4169-5753 or 0427 340 710 for more details. You can also read more about what last year's Fun Run was like on our website.
Nanango Camera Club Portrait Workshop
The Nanango & District Camera Club will be holding its annual Portrait Workshop near the Tipperary Flats windmill on the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango today. This popular event offers photographers an afternoon of expert tuition and tips about how to shoot great portrait photos in all types of lighting and weather conditions using digital cameras. This year's workshop will be led by two experienced professional photographers and there'll be multiple models to practice on. Anyone with a digital camera is welcome and the cost of the workshop is just $20 for Nanango Camera Club members and $25 for non-members. More details? Phone Clive on (07) 4171-0201 or send him an email. You can also read more about what last year's Portrait Workshop was like - and see photos - on our website.
Million Paws Walk - Kingaroy
The South Burnett's RSPCA Million Paws Walk - one of the major annual fundraisers for the Kingaroy RSPCA - will be held at Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy from 8:00am this morning (when Walk registrations will commence - the walk gets underway at 9:00am) until around 1:00pm this afternoon. Owners can bring their well-behaved dogs along for a 4km circuit walk and then follow things up with the family by enjoying a community sausage sizzle, an egg-and-spoon race, costume awards, or taking part in the many other fun things that will be on offer. Entry to the walk costs $20 for adults, $12 for concessions (pensioners, students) or $50 for a family of four and all proceeds of this morning's efforts will go to the Kingaroy RSPCA to help them look after the South Burnett's unwanted and/or abused pets. Everyone is welcome to this great social morning - last year more than 60 walkers took part - and you can obtain more details and/or register by phoning the RSPCA on (07) 4162-5501 or by visiting the Million Paws Walk website. PS: If you pre-register for this event you can save money; and if you haven't got a well-behaved dog (or any dog at all) but still want to take part and give the RSPCA a call beforehand, they'll set you up with a shelter dog for the walk. It's a great way to give them exercise and who knows? You may meet a new lifelong friend!
Ringsfield Film Society Movie Afternoon - Nanango
The Ringsfield Film Society will be screening a Sunday afternoon movie at their cinema - the old chapel in the grounds of Ringsfield House at 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango - at 2:30pm today. This month's classic film is "The Shiralee", a true Australian-themed classic starring Peter Finch (pictured) as Macauley the swagman, who is seeking to escape his responsibilities but finds himself unable to shed his greatest burden, his five-year-old daughter Buster. The Shiralee was produced in 1957 by Britain's Ealing studios and although all outdoor scenes were shot in Australia and Aussie actors Charles Tingwell, Bill Kerr and Ed Devereaux all had parts, it is really a British film - one of five that Ealing shot in Australia - and it provides an alien view of our country that is very noticeable 60 years later, though this probably wasn't the case with audiences of the time. A pre-movie lunch will be available at the Ringsfield House Cafe (bookings are advisable) and an $8 Devonshire tea will be available at interval, too. More details? Phone Ringsfield House on (07) 4163-3345 or send them an email. You can also find out more about the Film Society on their Facebook page.
Walk With Lynda - Crawford To Kingaroy
A "Walk With Lynda" community walk between Crawford State School and Memorial Park in Kingaroy will be held at 3:00pm today. The walk is the culmination of Brett and Trevor Otto’s 500km charity walk from Gladstone to Kingaroy which began on April 21 to raise awareness about melanoma, and the community is invited to accompany the pair on the final legal of their journey. A bus will pick up walkers at Memorial Park in Kingaroy at 2:30pm and drop them off in Crawford. The walkers will then head back into Kingaroy for a closing ceremony at Memorial Park at 5:30pm, where cold drinks and refreshments will be on sale. The walk has been inspired by well-known local Lynda Geiger, who succumbed to melanoma last year after a long battle with the disease. The registration fee to enter the Crawford to Kingaroy walk is $20 per person, and all funds raised will assist the Melanoma Awareness Foundation. To register, contact the Melanoma Awareness Foundation by email or phone 0467-625-269. You can also read more about this walk on our website
