The Kingaroy Sportfishing Club is keen to share the joy of wetting a line with the younger generation to ensure a bright future for the sport.

The group recently organised an Angler Education Day in conjunction with Kingaroy Scouts  at Gordonbrook Dam.

Seventeen scouts, under the careful watch of cub leaders Jackie “Kookaburra” Jones and Catherine “Koala” Bochmann,  were taught some of the basics of rod-and-reel fishing by club members.

Club vice-president Shaun Manthey said he wanted to especially thank Stanwell, which supported the event through the donation of rods for all the young anglers to use.

The last time the Kingaroy Sportfishing Club and the scouts joined forces for an education day, the haul wasn’t spectacular … it included a toy car!

But this time, the youngsters did manage to haul in some fish.

At the end of a relaxing day at the dam, the scouts returned to their Kingaroy Den to enjoy their Christmas break-up.
