The distraught parents of missing man Jack McLennan have appealed to anyone who may have seen their son on Friday night in the Murgon or Ficks Crossing areas to come forward.
Kellie Moody, from Memerambi, said Jack’s car had been found in Murgon, so she was particularly asking any motorists who were driving on the Bunya Highway on Friday night to contact police if they had seen a man walking along the road.
“He’s a good walker,” she said. “Jack may have decided to walk back into Murgon or towards Memerambi.”
Jack’s father, Ross McLennan, has flown up from Tasmania to join the search.
The couple and friends have been scouring the area and putting up posters.
“It’s been six days, someone must have seen something,” Kellie said.
She urged people to ring PoliceLink on 131-444 if they had any information.
Jack’s shoes – a pair of sneakers – have been found by searchers in grass near a fence between Ficks Crossing and Krebs Bridge, about 200m away from the highway.
Inspector Scott Stahlhut, from the South Burnett Patrol Group, told reporters on Thursday afternoon the search for Jack was still continuing.
He said police divers had searched along Barambah Creek and drones and a helicopter had conducted aerial surveys.
Police and SES volunteers had also been searching the area on foot as well as using motorbikes and all-terrain vehicles.
Inspector Stahlhut said police had asked members of the public who live in the Ficks Crossing and Murgon area, particularly landholders of rural or semi-rural blocks, to check their properties.
Police had also conducted doorknocks in the area.
Inspector Stahlhut appealed for anyone who was in the Ficks Crossing area between 3:00pm on Friday and midday on Saturday to come forward if they have any relevant information.
“We are appealing to Jack if he does hear this message … to either make contact with his family or police,” Inspector Stahlhut said.
He said Jack visited a Lamb Street business before travelling to Ficks Crossing with a friend.
“The friend that he went with was the last person to see Jack,” Inspector Stahlhut said.
He said the disappearance was out of character and police had concerns for Jack’s well-being.
Inspector Stahlhut said the heavy rain on Wednesday night had affected the ground search but it was still continuing.
