The South Burnett’s unique Christmas Spirit initiative – organised by Council CEO Mark Pitt and his wife Nicola – has been expanded this year to include another category.

“Christmas Cottage” has been added to the judging criteria to encourage the decoration of individual houses.

“Santa Claus Lane” (introduced in 2019 to foster community co-operation) and “Santa’s Workshop” (which began in 2021 for businesses to display their festive spirit) will still be running as usual but the new category will allow single homes to be eligible for judging.

“This year we are introducing the Christmas Cottage aspect to the initiative allowing for nominations of individual residences to join in the fun,” Mark said.

“While there will be no monetary prize, we will be presenting a perpetual trophy to the winners of the ‘Christmas Cottage’.”

Trophies will also be presented to the winners of the “Santa’s Workshop” category in each area.

A fingerboard – to be erected on a street sign – will be presented to the winners of “Santa Claus Lane” at the December ordinary meeting of South Burnett Regional Council.

“The Christmas Spirit initiative is about celebrating the joy of Christmas in our local area, ensuring everyone has a chance to participate,” Nicola said.

“There will be more announcements between now and October when it is expected that the entry forms will be rolled out.”
