South Burnett Regional Council has welcomed the extension of a hairdressing course being offered at the Kingaroy TAFE campus.

Mayor Brett Otto urged interested people to support the six-month Certificate II in Salon Assistant course, which has been extended from high school students into the wider South Burnett community.

The course, which will start in January, will enable participants to get a job as a salon assistant or begin a hairdressing apprenticeship.

“This is about long-term jobs and small businesses and keeping our young people here with exciting futures ahead,” Mayor Otto said.

TAFE teacher Kyla Steinhardt said students would gain skills in the “real-life salon setting” on campus.

“We cover of all the basics including how to communicate with clients about the range of services available, working as part of a wider salon team, salon health and safety considerations and completing financial transactions,” Ms Steinhardt said.

“You’ll work with real clients in a fully operational hairdressing setting, learning how to perform a range of duties including hair washing, basin services and blow drying to provide a great pamper experience for visitors to our salon.”
