Well-known South Burnett businesswoman Georgie Somerset AM has added the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) to her long list of Board appointments.

FRRR chairman Tim Fairfax AC made the announcement on Friday.

He said Mrs Somerset’s depth and breadth of experience would be a key asset and only serve to strengthen the board.

“Georgie brings a number of different perspectives to the board – as a primary producer, active community member, respected industry leader and experienced board director,” Mr Fairfax said.

“With decades of experience managing the challenges associated with living in remote and regional communities, Georgie will bring a fantastic drive and strength to the FRRR board.”

Mrs Somerset, who runs a grazing property near Durong with her husband Robert, is a founding member of the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women’s Network (QRRRWN) and a former president of the association.

She is currently on the Board of the ABC, president of AgForce Queensland, deputy chair of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Qld) and a director of the National Farmers Federation and the RFDS Foundation.

She is also a founding member and current chair of the Red Earth Community Foundation South Burnett Ltd.

Mrs Somerset is also a former Board member of the National Foundation for Australian Women and serves on a number of advisory committees for regional development, tertiary institutions, industry and community groups and a number of government review panels.
