Gunsynd's Gossip

Nanango Race Club president Andrew Green and his father Barry will be hoping that their local turf will prove fertile on Saturday.

The duo will be represented at Lee Park by Missile Magic in the Deb Frecklington Class 3 QTIS Plate (1000m).

Adam Briskey will saddle up the Smart Missile gelding that finished second in Benchmark 50 company at the same track a month ago.

Lilli Barr will again be the partner.

The son of the Sebring mare Iseemagic will be having only his second run in Queensland.

He won a Hawkesbury maiden on soft going for the Peter and Paul Snowden yard in May 2020 before registering three placings and six fourths for Canberra horseman Nick Olive.

The six-year-old, with genetic endowments by Fastnet Rock and Zabeel, is closely related to Anacheeva (2010 Caulfield Guineas), Headturner (2006 AJC Derby) and the Group One Kiwi performer O’Marilyn.

Barry, along with his neighbour Barry Goodwill, also has an interest in The Angel’s Kiss (Lilli Barr) in the Heritage Bank Nanango Class B (1600m).

She was third in the similar grade at Lee Park’s August fixture.

Goodwill also races Invaness, another aspirant for Briskey, in the Yarraman Bakery Maiden Plate that is to be handled by Ian French.

Bits And Bridles

  • It is great to see that Leeanne McCoy is rekindling her association with the Neville O’Toole trained A Good Chance in the Star Tyre Power Open Handicap on Saturday. The pair were victorious on Anzac Day last year at Wondai. McCoy has been plying her trade in the far north of the state. She booted home Noir Jack at Innisfail on August 13 and has a full book for the program.
  • Jockey Ian French made a remarkable comeback by scoring on True Tally at Bundaberg last weekend. The 47 year-old has been off the scene since May 3, 2014 when he came off Sheza Roughie at Mitchell.
  • The most travelled acceptor for the busy five event card is Bulletin (USA). The City Zip (USA) gelding was a brilliant youngster, claiming the coveted $1.2 million Breeders’ Cup for Juveniles at Churchill Downs in 2018. After the chestnut posted an American scoreline of 9:3-1-1 for earnings of $930,000, he joined the Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott team in 2020. Sadly his outings there amounted to seven trials and four unplaced starts for an income of a meagre $8,000. The now seven-year-old (by Australian time) then finished rearward twice each for the Mitch Beer side at Albury and Ben Brisbourne’s Wangaratta unit. Kelly Gates has been engaged for the import that is also entered for the Toowoomba meeting.
  • Continuum’s trainer David Matts is also an interesting visitor for the opening contest, the Heartfelt Ceremonies with Simone Class B (800m). His base is at Coffs Harbour.
  • Robert Faehr, the well known hoop in country south-east Queensland before he ventured west, starred with four winners at Birdsville’s carnival last weekend. Topping his list was the Cup with its total purse of $43,800.
  • Central Queensland jockey Natalea Summers is returning to an old stamping ground. Her aim is to prevail on Charlotte Rules, a galloper she now trains.
  • The Glenn and Hannah Richardson combination will be in action at Thangool on Saturday. Their candidates are Rising Spirit, No Not Yet, Mr Brose and Infinite Joy with Nicole Seymour listed to ride their stablemate Lucky Time. Kenji Yoshida will be aboard Rising Spirit at Nanango if the Spirit of Boom mare competes there.
  • The track for the Spring Florals themed race day in Nanango was rated as a Soft 6 at acceptance time on Thursday. The rainfall tally for the previous seven days stood at 57 millimetres.

    See you at the track!
