Tarong Power Station’s Brendon Newman was named the Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year at the recent regional finals of the Queensland Training Awards.
Brendon took home the prestigious title after completing a dual apprenticeship in Certificate III in Electrotechnology and Instrumentation and Control at Kingaroy TAFE.
He will now compete at the State finals later this year.
This is not the first time that Brendon’s skills have been recognised.
In June last year, he won a Gold Medal at the 2025 WorldSkills Australia National Championships held in Brisbane.
Brendon works as an Instrumentation and Control Technician at Tarong Power Station and is now studying an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering part-time.
The Queensland Training Awards celebrate excellence in vocational education and training.
The winners of the Darling Downs South West Regional Finals were announced in Toowoomba on August 14.
Other South Burnett finalists included South Burnett Regional Council (Large Employer Of The Year) and Koby Douglas, from Cherbourg (Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Student Of The Year).
