Applications are now open for Round 1 of the State Government’s new $500 million Land Restoration Fund.

More than 100 leaders from industry, finance and the land sector met in Brisbane on Tuesday to hear how they could access the fund to drive improved environmental outcomes in Queensland.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said the fund would support carbon farming projects that would deliver co-benefits for the health of the Great Barrier Reef, threatened species, regional communities and Traditional Owners.

Queensland Farmers’ Federation CEO Dr Georgina Davis welcomed the opening of the first round of funding.

“The Land Restoration Fund will provide great opportunities for landholders to capitalise on their environmental assets,” Dr Davis said.

“Farmers are exceptional land managers and this funding will help successful applicants to diversify their income while producing co-benefits for the environment and the community.”

Specialists from industry and government will visit regional Queensland centres over the next six weeks to outline the supports available to help landholders with project proposals and funding applications.

Workshops are planned in Warwick (Feb 3), Roma (Feb 5), Gympie (Feb 7), Biloela (Feb 10), Emerald (Feb 12), Charters Towers (Feb 24), Longreach (Feb 24), Mt Surprise (Feb 26) and Kilcoy (Feb 28).

Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch Minister Enoch said the fund would support farmers, landholders and Traditional Owners to put in place sustainable land use practices.

Applications for the first round close on February 28. A second intake will close on April 15.
