Murgon agents yarded just short of 800 head on January 14 in the first fortnightly cattle sale for 2020.

The market for export cattle as well as feeders was similar to the last sale, and weaner steers and heifers were harder to shift.

Cattle were drawn from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Biggenden, Nanango, Durong, Kingaroy, Kilkivan and the Murgon area.

Sale results:

  • Bulls sold to $2.29/kg
  • Heavy Cows over 500kg topped at $2.40/kg and $1530
  • Cows 400-500kg sold to $2.27/kg, averaging $1.82/kg
  • Lighter Cows under 400kg topped at $2.17/kg
  • Export heifers sold to $2.69/kg and $1320
  • 2 pens of Charbray steers from Mt Perry sold for $2.80/kg to return $1123 and $98
  • 370kg Santa steers from Mt Larcom sold for $1075 at $2.90/kg
  • 311kg Droughtmaster steers from Tansey sold for $856 at $2.75/kg
  • Charbray steers weighing 320kg sold to $2.60/kg, returning $832
  • Limousin weaner steers from Mt McEuen sold for $695 at $2.60/kg
  • Brangus weaner steers from Mondure sold for $506 at $2.22/kg
  • Euro cross heifers from Wondai sold for $2.52/kg and $844
  • Charolais cross heifers from Wheatlands sold for $880 at $2.50/kg
  • 311kg Brahman cross heifers from Tansey sold to $753 at $2.42/kg
  • Hereford heifers from Johnstown sold for $2.37/kg, returning $672
  • 2 pens of Droughtmaster heifers from Tansey sold for $2.26/kg to return $649 and $593
  • Brangus weaner heifers sold for $2.01/kg and $327
