The South Burnett Regional Council’s “Listening Tour” to the Bunya Mountains turned into a medical emergency on Monday afternoon when a motorcycle rider crashed on the Bunya Mountains Road.

Nanango councillor Roz Frohloff, a former QAS paramedic, said the rider was “a very lucky young man” not to have been more seriously hurt in the crash.

The incident occurred on a blind corner of the road, on the Kumbia side of the mountains.

Two vehicles carrying councillors and council staff returning from the Listening Tour meeting were the first on the scene.

“We had to block the road with our vehicles to stop traffic,” Cr Frohloff said.

“We had a first aid kit but there wasn’t much we could do other than call the ambulance and help to keep him calm.”

The 24-year-old Nanango man recognised Cr Frohloff immediately when she went to help him.

“And he thought it was a strange that the Mayor was there!” Cr Frohloff said.

Cr Frohloff said the council team did not witness the crash which occurred just before they got there.

Two ambulances were called to the incident just before 4:30pm on the Bunya Mountains Road.

The rider was treated at the scene for a shoulder injury, grazes and lacerations.

He was then taken by ambulance to Kingaroy Hospital in a stable condition.
