Agents yarded 850 head at the Murgon saleyards last Tuesday for the fortnightly cattle sale, up 20 per cent on the previous sale.

Export cattle and feeder prices remained firm, but prices for young restocker cattle continued to slide as the dry weather continues.

Cattle were drawn from Mundubbera, Mt Perry, Gayndah, Nanango, Proston, Kingaroy, Kilkivan and the Murgon district.

Sale results:

  • Heavy Bulls sold to $2.60 and $2370
  • Bullocks topped at $3.00/kg and $2150
  • Cows over 500kg topped at $2.41/kg, averaging $2.18/kg
  • Cows 400–500kg sold to a top of $2.15/kg
  • Lighter Cows under 400kg topped at $2.00/kg
  • Export Heifers sold to $2.90/kg and $1850
  • 491 kg Droughtmaster cross steers from Goomeri sold for $2.73/kg and $1343
  • Four tooth Gelbvieh steers from Johnstown sold to $1184 at $2.69/kg
  • Droughtmaster steers weighing 466kg from Crownthorpe sold for $1256 and $2.69/kg
  • 383kg Charbray steers from Goomeri sold to $1035 at $2.70/kg
  • 373kg Droughtmaster cross steers from Wooroonden sold to $2.52/kg to return $941
  • Simmental cross weaner steers from Manyung sold to $2.40/kg and $564
  • Red Angus cross weaner steers from Proston also sold to $2.40/kg for $640
  • Santa weaner steers from Gayndah sold to $650
  • 365kg Droughtmaster heifers from Murgon sold to $2.43/kg to return $890
  • Brahman cross heifers from Tansey sold for $906 at 387kg
  • Weaner heifers topped at $2.20/kg and $640
  • Weaner heifers sold generally from $1.50-$1.90/kg

The next Murgon cattle sale will be held on Tuesday, October 1 at 8:00am.
