A man is assisting police following a double break-in at Nanango on Friday.

Office-in-charge of Nanango Police, Sergeant Brett Smith, said that at some time between 6:30am and 10:30am, thieves cut through a chain securing the front gate to a Cairns Street property.

The offender or offenders went to a shed and stole a beige Toyota LandCruiser wagon.

The owner of the vehicle later found it abandoned in a laneway not far away.

However, the owner also reported that a large quantity of cash had been stolen from within the house. The cash was all in coins and would have been heavy to lift.

Then, between 10:00pm on Friday and 5:55am on Saturday, the same house was broken into and a mobile phone was stolen while the occupants slept.

Sgt Smith said this phone was then used to perform cardless transactions at an ATM in Nanango, resulting in a quantity of cash being stolen from the complainant’s account.

Nanango Police later located a man allegedly in possession of the stolen mobile phone.

Investigations are continuing.
