The South Burnett Regional Council will hold public consultation meetings about Kingaroy’s CBD revitalisation project on March 22 and 23.
On Tuesday, Mayor Keith Campbell said the meetings will give the public their first opportunity to look at preliminary plans and artist concepts and provide feedback.
This project encompasses Haly Street, George Street, the rail corridor, Kingaroy Street, Alford Street, Short Street, Markwell Street, Youngman Street and Glendon Street.
It will review elements including open space, roads, kerb and channel, footpaths, landscaping, pedestrian crossings, pram ramps, car parking, traffic movements, road medians, road furniture, signage, lighting and park furniture.
The aim of the revitalisation is to make Kingaroy’s CBD a safer, more inviting and visually rewarding place for residents and visitors.
southburnett.com.au understands partially closing Glendon Street and extending the current Town Hall forecourt to create a civic square is one subject up for discussion.
Another is a plan to create a large carpark on former railway land behind shops in Haly Street which would link up with the existing King Street car park.
The meetings will be held at the Kingaroy Town Hall Reception Room from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday, March 22 and 9:00am-11:00am on Friday, March 23.
Consultants who are preparing the designs are expected to be in attendance.
Council representatives will also hold closed meetings with property owners and retailers who may be impacted by work on the project to gather additional feedback.
The council has budgeted $4 million over two financial years for the project and hopes to get an additional $4 million from state and federal grants.
