A social housing development was officially opened in Kingaroy on Friday to provide safe and secure homes for local residents in need.

Regional Housing delivered the project in conjunction with the South Burnett Regional Council – which donated the land – and the State Government which provided funding.

A Regional Housing spokesperson said it was a shining example of what could be achieved when government and community work together.

The triplex consists of three two-bedroom units, designed to provide future tenants with comfort, security and independence in a supportive environment.

Member for Nanango Attorney-General Deb Frecklington, Cr Deb Dennien, Cr Danita Potter and Cr Linda Little joined representatives from Regional Housing and local community groups, including South Burnett CTC, at the opening.

Housing Minister Sam O’Connor said later it was great to see more social housing like this being delivered to provide safe and secure homes for vulnerable people.

“These homes are an important addition to Kingaroy and it shows we are getting on with the job of delivering more social housing for communities across Queensland,” Minister O’Connor said.

“It is through partnerships with community housing providers like Regional Housing that we will achieve our goal of delivering 53,500 social and affordable homes for Queenslanders by 2044.”

Regional Housing CEO Brett Hanna said the much-needed project highlighted the power of partnership in tackling housing challenges.

“This is about more than just buildings – it’s about giving people dignity, stability and a place to call home,” Mr Hanna said.

“These homes will be life-changing for three families currently doing it tough, and we can’t thank the council and the Queensland Government enough for the significant role they played in helping Regional Housing deliver this critical project.”

The Kingaroy development is part of Regional Housing’s broader commitment to boost social and affordable housing across Queensland.
