May 30, 2025

Cherbourg Hornets were too strong at home for the Kingaroy Red Ants in last Saturday’s A Grade rugby league match at Jack O’Chin Oval.

The Hornets ran away victors under lights 46-22 after leading 28-6 at half-time.

Hornets’ try scorers were: Lloyd Langton (2), Keith Gadd Jnr (2), Rahcine Doyle, George Fisher, Jonathan Walsh and Ty Gyemore. Goals were kicked by George Fisher (6) and Barry Tapau-Fewquandie.

Red Ants tries were scored by: Adam Nightingale (2), Joshua Peterson and Mitchell Bailey. Chris Bond kicked three conversions.

After five rounds, Cherbourg are on the top of the ladder, with four wins and one draw; four points clear of Wondai and Kingaroy.

In the earlier game, Murgon held on grimly against a strong second half comeback by Wondai to record a 34-26 victory after leading 30-10 at half-time.

It was the Mustangs’ first win after five rounds.

The Wolves’ performance was even more amazing, considering they played almost all the game with just 12 players after an incident in the first few minutes which resulted in a penalty try being awarded to Murgon.

Mustangs’ try scorers were Jahrlin Dalton (two, including the penalty try), Jayden Tewes-Smallwood (2), Joel Fewquandie and Charlie Sippel. Jayden Tewes-Smallwood kicked four conversions and a penalty goal.

Wondai tries were scored by Damian Alphonse (2), Cory Ward, Tyler Prescott and Siolame Fituafe. Torren Anderton kicked three conversions.
