Police have charged three teenage boys with a string of offences after crime spree in Murgon and Cherbourg at the weekend, which included elderly men being threatened, a man injured, cars torched and another man threatened with a knife.

Police will allege:

  • About 11:00pm on Friday, a group tried to break into a property on Douglas Street in Murgon before moving on to a neighbouring property where they used a garden ornament to smash though the front door. They threatened a 76-year-old man inside the property, before leaving the scene. The man was not physically injured.
  • About 10:30pm on Saturday, the group entered a property on Taylor Street in Murgon before they were disturbed by an alarm.
  • A short time later, they broke into a property in Thorn Street, Murgon by climbing through an open window, entered a bedroom and assaulted a 25-year-old man.  The group stole items of property and broke into a vehicle inside the garage before leaving the scene. The 25-year-old man was treated for injuries to his face and arms.
  • About 11:30pm on the same night, the group entered the rear yard of a Cobb Street property in Murgon before breaking into a nearby property on Leitch Street through a rear garage door. Once inside the house, the group allegedly stole car keys from the kitchen and a 2015 grey Mazda 2 parked in the garage.
  • About 5:50am on Sunday, the group arrived at a Boat Mountain Road address in Murgon where they approached an elderly man on his balcony. One of the teenagers grabbed a set of keys from the victim’s hands before stealing a grey Kia Cerato.  The 88-year-old man was not physically injured. The Kia Cerato was located shortly before 8:00am on a dirt track near Cemetery Road at Cherbourg where it had been set on fire.
  • About 6:30am on Sunday, a 26-year-old man noticed a vehicle pull up behind his car at the Ny-Ku Byun Elders Village in Fisher Street, Cherbourg. A teenage boy got out, approached the 26-year-old, threatened him with a knife and grabbed him by the neck. After the man got out of his vehicle, the teenager got in and drove off, followed by a second vehicle also at the scene. Police later located the silver 2007 Toyota Camry on Old Wondai Road where it had been burnt out. The 26-year-old man was not physically injured.

A 15-year-old teenage boy has been charged with nine offences including two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and trespass, unlicensed driving, attempted enter dwelling, armed robbery in company, armed robbery in company using personal violence and enter premises and commit indictable offence. He was due to appear in the Maroochydore Children’s Court.

A 13-year-old teenage boy has been charged with nine offences including four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of arson and stealing and one count of armed robbery. He has appeared in Brisbane Children’s Court.

A 13-year-old teenage boy has been charged with five charges including two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter premises to commit, arson of motor vehicle and stealing. He is due to appear in Murgon Children’s Court .

  1. This is getting beyond ridiculous, these are serious charges, would be nice if you told us what happened in court. Adult crimes, adult time, is this really happening?

    No one is safe in their homes. Causing a lot of grief and costing a fortune to replace and increased insurance.
