Kingaroy TAFE student Brendon Newman has won a Gold Medal at the 2025 WorldSkills Australia National Championships held in Brisbane last week.

Brendon, who was competing in the Electrical Control category, represented Queensland after success at the regional South West competition last year.

The Stanwell apprentice is completing an electrical instrumentation apprenticeship at the Tarong power stations.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said Brendon had made the South Burnett proud.

She also congratulated two other Kingaroy TAFE students who represented Queensland at the national finals: Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETIS) Primary Industries students Kaitlyn Barber and Peter Anderson.

The Primary Industries category tested the students’ knowledge about mixed farming, including cropping and livestock.

The 2025 National Championships featured more than 600 competitors from across Australia.

WorldSkills is Australia’s largest vocational education and skills excellence competition.

The National Championships enable competitors who won regional competitions to showcase their talents and test their skills on a national stage.

The event was held at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre – and some off-site venues – from Thursday to Saturday, with the medal ceremony on Sunday.

The 2027 National Championships will be held in Adelaide.
