Gympie Police say mountain bike patrols will become a regular sight on the newly opened Kilkivan to Kingaroy rail trail.

Police have already patrolled the section from Kilkivan to Goomeri.

The rail trail from Kilkivan to Murgon is unsealed, hence the need for mountain bikes for the “mounted police”.

“This is another great recreational activity in our community for everyone to use, in particular encouraging families to get out there and get active,” Senior Constable Deb Wruck wrote on the myPolice Gympie web page.

“Regular police mountain bike patrols will become a familiar site for the locals and visitors wishing to use the trail.”

One Response to "‘Mounted Police’ Hit Rail Trail"

  1. Well I’d like to know how they are passing the cow manure infested waterway about 7km into the trail that we couldn’t pass without going on private property. When I sent the photo and complaint to Gympie council they replied with:

“Thank you for your comments regarding the Kingaroy to Kilkivan Rail Trail.

“The rail trail between Kilkivan and Murgon is a natural surface which was created to offer recreational users an authentic experience. Trail signage details that there are natural hazards including waterways that users of the trail will come across on their journey.

“The entire Gympie region has been drought declared for a significant amount of time and due to the ongoing dry conditions, the water quality at this location and other waterways nearby is compromised. We hope this information has been helpful.”

Well that signage they are talking about is rubbish – it clearly states that it is suitable for hikers.

Walking through cow manure infested, stagnant water is a health hazard – not an authentic experience.

South Burnett Council has managed to bitumen a 42km track as well as provide shelters and amentities along the way, and waterways have actual walking bridges. What a novel idea!
