Long range weather forecaster Hayden Walker – the son of Lennox Walker – will be appearing at Wooroolin Hall on Tuesday, September 6 to talk about his methods.

Hayden provides long-range weather forecasts for farmers, businesses and individuals around Australia through his company Walkers Weather.

He creates his forecasts by studying the sun, and has been working in the field for 23 years.

His company normally predicts the weather 12 to 18 months in advance, but also produces short-term, monthly and seasonal outlooks. It can also issue forecasts as much as five years ahead.

Weather patterns and predictions are developed by monitoring sun spots and solar flares, analysing historical data, and observing planetary relationships and orbital patterns.

Hayden believes solar flares and changes in the sun’s magnetic field affect the Earth’s own magnetic field, and says periods of high magnetic activity lead to high rainfall.

He claims an average accuracy rate of 75 per cent for his forecasts, successfully predicting Cyclones Larry, Yasi, Oswald, Marcia and Olwyn; flooding on the NSW coast during April 2015; and recent storm activity in Queensland and NSW.

Hayden will speak at Wooroolin at 2:00pm.

His visit has been jointly sponsored by BGA AgriServices, BIEDO and the South Burnett Regional Council and admission is free, but seating is limited.

Seats can be reserved by phoning Yolanda at the South Burnett Regional Council on (07) 4189-9538.
