Four major incidents occurred at Meandu Mine recently which sent rescuers running, but there was no need to panic.

The mine hosted an Emergency Response Team (ERT) skills development day for ERT teams from Meandu, New Acland Coal, New Acland Exploration Drillers and the Commodore Mine, south-west of Toowoomba.

There were four emergency scenarios for the teams to tackle:

  • A coal haulage truck and a car collide resulting in four casualties,
  • A confined space accident with two casualties,
  • A fire near a pressure vessel, and
  • A fall from height resulting in one casualty.

Emergency Management Solutions and rescue equipment provider PT Hydraulics provided training and support.

Also present were local firefighters, ambulance personnel, Dr Isabella Jonsson and Queensland Mines Rescue and Mines Inspector Lionel Smith.

Asset Manager (Mining Operations) Jim Young said the day had been a big success.
