The July calendar for the Burnett and Brisbane Valley got off to a great start with bowlers travelling up and down the D’Aguilar and Burnett highways.

There was a two-day Mixed Carnival at Kilcoy; at Kingaroy, the Men’s Fours Carnival; at Yarraman, the inter-club Triples clash; at Tansey, the Ladies Fiesta carnival, and it was President’s Day at Murgon.

There were District Champion of Champions matches in Men’s Singles and Mixed Pairs.

Most clubs managed to fit in a number of matches in their club’s Club Championships calendar.

Next weekend, there are Men’s Pennant matches scheduled for Nanango and Kingaroy.

Kingaroy

Kingaroy’s Men’s Open Fours Winter Carnival attracted full greens over the weekend.

Twenty-four teams from throughout south-east Queensland gathered in Kingaroy for the annual winter carnival. The competition comprised  five 18-end games with the winners being determined by the amount of games won and the number of ends won in each  game.

The weather was forecast to be extremely cold. On Saturday a westerly wind made playing conditions bleak so keeping  warm was a priority.

After Day 1, five teams were still undefeated and had three wins.

With the threat of even colder weather on Sunday, it was a pleasant surprise to see clear skies although the winds were bitterly cold and playing conditions were difficult.

After Day 2, only two teams remained undefeated and a countback on ends won was required. Minor places were also close.

  • 1st – Toowoomba. 5 Wins. 54 1/2 ends. Richie Dixon, Chris Barrett, Nathan Appleton, Graeme Kath
  • 2nd – Composite Team. 5 Wins, 54 ends. S. English, T. Hinds, I. Coloton, S. Humphries
  • 3rd – Kandanga. 4 wins 54 1/2 ends. Margin 63. Dennis Bartlem, Geoff Gees, Gary Dan, Jack Horne
  • 4th – Goomeri. 4  wins, 52 1/2 ends. Margin 49
  • 5th – Gayndah. 4 wins, 52 1/2 ends. Margin 24
  • 6th – Nanango. 4 wins, 51 1/2 ends. Margin 38
  • 7th – Sunshine Coast. 4 wins, 47 1/2 ends.  Margin 24
