Cherbourg wants your rubbish! Boxes, paper, cans, tins, polystyrene foam and all recyclable goods … except glass.

This is because Cherbourg has built the South Burnett region’s first – and only – recycling plant.

The town’s council hopes to employ many people at the facility in coming years if everything goes to plan, but initially it needs businesses and people to drop off their recyclable waste at the site.

The facility is located on the third turn to the left (just after the 60km speed sign) on Cherbourg Road.

Clean waste can be left in the blue hopper or within the wire bins provided.

Manager Andrew Beckett said the plant had huge potential.

Agreements are being established with South Burnett Regional Council and local businesses.

Start-up costs were sponsored by Indigenous Business Australia after a feasibility study and regional waste audit were done.

These showed the plant could be profitable on cardboard alone, but it wants much more.

“We’re very excited,” Andrew said. “We want everybody to support it.”

Businesses wanting more information can phone Andrew on 0429-706-282.

  1. Great idea! We are losing our recycling bin in Nanango area. Since we are out of town we are thinking of collecting our recycling in bulk bags. Could we bring these periodically to your facility? We can collect tins, aluminium cans and plastics. Which plastics can you take, 1, 2 and 5?

    • We are in a trial phase at the moment, however we are currently open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:00am to 4:00pm and are willing to take all plastics, cardboard/paper, tins and aluminum. So yes, you can bring these materials to our facility.
