Nanango singer Natalie Fenton was singing enthusiastically on the new stage in Pioneer Park

Some of the South Burnett’s most enthusiastic small business operators were keen to show off their wares – and the sun was definitely shining – but it wasn’t enough to draw a big crowd to the inaugural South Burnett Shines Business, Tourism and Lifestyle Expo in Nanango on Saturday.

Boots’n Bulldust spokeswoman Sandy Towell said she estimated 400 people came to Pioneer Park to experience what was on offer, but although she would have liked more, it was enough to convince her it should become an annual event.

“We were very, very happy with the number of stallholders who came along,” she said.

There were 77 stalls, featuring everything from a medieval re-enactment troupe to free cupcakes.

Election fever ensured at least two political parties were also represented … Katter’s Australian Party and The Greens had stalls.

On stage, a string of local musicians performed.

Ms Towell said she hoped South Burnett Shines could one day be as big as Farm Fantastic at Caboolture which runs for three days and attracts more than 20,000 visitors every year.

But in the meantime, it would defintely become an annual event, she said.
