Flood damage to infrastructure has forced the South Burnett Regional Council to extend Emergency Water Restrictions across the region, effective immediately.

“Damage to numerous sections of the water network has occurred in all towns across the region, particularly in Murgon, Wondai, Kingaroy and Nanango,” a Council statement this morning said.

“As such, Council is invoking Emergency Water Restrictions across the Region effective immediately.

“Under these restrictions, no external water use is permitted except for animal welfare. Town water use is also requested to be kept to a minimum within the home and use tank water wherever possible.

“Council crews will be working throughout today and continue into the week to repair the damage and restore raw water supplies from creeks when floodwaters recede.

“Further advice will be provided as networks are restored on Council’s website and Facebook page.

The rainfall and major flooding has also resulted in sewerage systems in all towns receiving inflows of floodwater beyond the capacity of the systems.

Numerous overflows occurred during Sunday and sewer blockages were cleared where possible.

From today and continuing throughout the week, Council crews will be checking and replacing manhole covers and inspecting areas where it is known overflows occurred.

This will involve crews entering properties and Council has asked for co-operation from residents.

Anyone who has observed manhole covers displaced or are still experiencing problems with their sewerage, should contact Council on (07) 4189-9100, although due to the high volume of requests, response times will be longer than normal and in some cases, may not be the same day.
