It’s time to take a pit stop on your health …

RHealth, in partnership with South Burnett Regional Council will be conducting health check “pit stops” and cooking demonstrations from Blackbutt to Murgon from January 21-25.

SBRC Healthy Communities Co-ordinator Kerry Oldfield said South Burnett residents would be able to check their blood pressure and waist measurement at each of the pit stops.

“It’s important to measure your waist as well as your weight, as they are both strong indicators of long-term disease risks,” she said.

“The national Measure Up campaign recommends that women should aim for a waist measurement of less than 80cm, and men less than 94cm. If you don’t feel this is realistic then a 5-10 per cent reduction can lead to substantial improvements in your health.”

To find out how your health rates, visit the team on:

  • Monday, January 21 at Blackbutt Newsagent, 10:00am-2:00pm
  • Wednesday, January 23, at Murgon IGA, 10:00am-2:00pm
  • Thursday, January 24, at Wondai IGA, 10:00am-2:00pm
  • Thursday, January 24, at Kingaroy Shoppingworld, 3:00pm-7:00pm
  • Friday, January 25, at Nanango Foodworks, 10:00am-2:00pm

The health checks are part of National Healthy Weight Week.

“We know that eating better, feeling better and moving more can reduce our risk of chronic disease such as heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes. Early intervention is the key to good long term health,” RHealth Healthy Lifestyle Program Officer Caitlin Isaac said.

She said two out of every three South Burnett residents (67.9 per cent) are carrying too much weight and only half of residents do the recommended amount of physical activity of 30 minutes every day.
