The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has appointed a new head to its Northern Panel, which covers growers in Queensland and NSW.

Riverina grain grower Murray Scholz will chair the panel for the next three years.

Mr Scholz succeeds outgoing chair Arthur Gearon, whose term concludes on August 31 after more than 10 years of service on the Northern Panel, including the past four years as chair.

GRDC Board Chair Sharon Starick said Mr Scholz brought extensive grower, governance and industry experience to the role.

“Murray is a highly respected grain grower and industry leader who brings a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Australian grain growers,” Ms Starick said.

Mr Scholz joined the Northern Panel in 2023 and has been a grain grower for more than 40 years.

The Northern Panel helps the GRDC identify and prioritise research, development and extension opportunities that support profitability and sustainability in the  northern grains region.
