The rare “Reading Bug Egg” found recently at Stanwell’s Meandu Mine was relocated to Nanango State School today so that the hatching process can begin.

The egg must be read to on a regular basis if it’s going to hatch … a job that the Nanango community has volunteered to do.

Stanwell workers carefully delivered the egg to Nanango State School to coincide with the school’s huge Under 8s day of fun activities.

At the school it was greeted by South Burnett mayor Wayne Kratzmann, councillors and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington.

While the dignitaries fussed over the egg, the U8s concentrated on having fun on the rides, exploring a police paddywagon and  fire engine, and playing games.

But the mystery egg quickly drew their attention.

Tucked away under its own special marquee, children started cuddling the egg and listening spellbound to stories read to them by a teacher.

The Reading Bug Egg will stay at Nanango State School now until  November 2 when it pays a visit to the Nanango markets.
