Stephen Simpson couldn't read at age 14 but is now a trainee teacher and mentors Murgon State School children such as Sam Kemp and Manolo Schloss

Murgon State High School is encouraging teenagers who’ve dropped out of school to have another go.

School Principal Greg Smith said students can always have a fresh start.

He’s encouraging parents who want to bring their children back to the school to phone or come see him.

The school believes some kids want to come back simply because they’re bored … walking the streets with nothing to do isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

“No matter why you’ve dropped out you can always have a new start,” Mr Smith said.

“All we ask is for students to respect the school rules and try their hardest.

“We’re not asking our students to be geniuses. We try to cater to all our children’s learning patterns and interests as best we can.

“The best way we can do this is for us to sit down and have a chat.”

Mr Smith said his office would be open on the last Friday of the school holidays for people to drop in. Or you can phone Greg on (07) 4169-9222 to make a time to have a chat.
