Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their latest monthly exhibition with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). The first session of an eight-week junior cricket Master Blasters program for young cricketers aged 7 to 11 will be run at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (next to Beangrowers) from 6:30pm to 8:00pm tonight. The program - for both boys and girls - is a super fun, social, safe, cricket program that is much shorter than traditional cricket, with a maximum of 90 minutes playing time. The Trail Ride will take participants on a 17.2km loop that will start and end at Cloyna Hall, and spectators are welcome to come and watch the action from 1:00pm onwards. Maclagan Squeezebox Festival
The 17th annual Maclagan Squeezebox Festival will be held at Maclagan Memorial Hall on the Dalby-Cooyar Road in the heart of Maclagan village today. Activities will kick off at 9:00am with a walk-up concert, which will be followed by the main concert that will run from 1:00pm until around 5:30pm. There'll be morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea on offer during the day, and the main concert will be followed by a dinner at 6:00pm, and then a great Old Time dance from 7:00pm until late. A canteen will be running all day and a licensed bar will begin operating in the afternoon. Admission is $12 for adults for the daytime events, and $10 for adults for the dance (children under 15 are free to attend both). There'll also be Lucky Door prizes and a raffle. The South Burnett RSPCA at Warren Truss Drive in Kingaroy Airport will be holding an induction for new shelter volunteers at 11:00am this morning. The only requirement to volunteer at the shelter is that you can commit to one shift per week for a minimum of three months, you are over the age of 16 and are up to date with your tetanus shots. The first day of the four-day Waterhole Rocks rock'n'roll campout weekend will roar into life at the Nanango Showgrounds this morning and continue on until late tonight. The festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by rock'n'roll acts. The Festival will get underway at 10:00am today with Billy Guy playing until 2:00pm, followed by rock & roll dance lessons on the festival's dance floor from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. After this, the South Burnett's very own Elvis Jeff Hancox will perform from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, and he'll be followed a dance from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. The third day of the four-day Waterhole Rocks rock'n'roll campout weekend will roar into life at the Nanango Showgrounds this morning and continue on until late tonight. 26th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain
The 26th Annual Kumbia Brain Drain will be held at Kumbia Hall on the Bunya Highway in Kumbia from 6:00pm until late this evening. The event - the major annual fundraiser for Kumbia State School P&C - is a trivia-style tournament where teams of 6 compete for great cash prizes. Guests at this year's Brain Drain are encouraged to dress to the theme "Game Of Crowns" to be in the running for great prizes. There'll also be cash prizes for round winners and overall winners, along with the usual fun-filled audience participation games and raffles. The newly-formed Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Grape Escape - Moffatdale and Kingaroy
The first day of the inaugural Grape Escape Weekend will be held from 10:00am to 4:00pm today, with a free shuttle bus travelling between five Moffatdale wineries to ferry guests between the different venues. Each of the five wineries will be offering free entertainment, free wine tastings, and $10 tasting plates featuring different local cuisines (there'll also be non-alcoholic drinks available at most venues). Guests can simply drive to any one of the participating wineries, then jump on the all-day shuttle bus and choose which wineries they'd like to visit as it moves from one venue to the next. In Kingaroy, Kingsley Grove Estate will also be taking part but because of its distance from Moffatdale, the shuttle bus will not be running to it. Farmers Big Day Out - Wondai
The South Burnett Regional Council, in conjunction with AgForce, BIEDO and RHealth, will be hosting a free Big Day Out for the local farming community at Wondai Showgrounds in Baynes Street, Wondai from noon to 7:00pm today. There'll be a free lunch for farmers plus a concert by Brendon Walmsley and heaps of attractions including trade displays, chainsaw ripping and sculpting, whip cracking and a mechanical bull.
