2019 Relay For Life - Kingaroy

The South Burnett's annual Relay For Life fundraiser will be held on the main oval at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 3:00pm this afternoon right through until 9:00am tomorrow morning. Spectators are welcome to come along and cheer the teams on as they march around the ring. The Relay's annual Candlelight Ceremony - held in remembrance of friends and relatives lost to cancer - will be held at dusk. There'll also be food and drink stalls in the grounds if you get hungry or thirsty, plus music. Note: In the event of wet weather, Relay For Life will be relocated from the Showgrounds to the Kingaroy State High School sports hall at the end of Markwell Street.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's monthly Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: Today's markets are being held in conjunction with the annual Colours Of Yarraman Festival, and will be followed in the afternoon with "Tunes On The Tracks" at Station Park in Millar Street (see separate entry below), so why not make a full day of it?
Tunes On The Tracks - Yarraman
Yarraman will be celebrating its annual Colours Of Yarraman Festival with an afternoon of food and music at Station Park at the end of Millar Street today, kicking off at 1:00pm and running to around 5:00pm. Guests at this gold coin donation event should bring along a plate of food to share for a long table lunch, along with a picnic rug or chair. Popular local group Ryza will be providing a relaxed afternoon of music and there'll also be a coffee and waffle van operating on site and a licensed cash bar (so no BYO). In addition, there'll be a fundraising raffle, prizes for the best dressed male and female, and family entertainment including giant chess, jenga, Connect 4 and more. Everyone is welcome!
South Burnett Cricket
Round 1 of the South Burnett's 2019-20 cricket competition will get under way at four venues across the region today. In Kingaroy, Devils will play Blackbutt at Lyle Vidler Oval; in Wondai, Wondai will play Kallindale at the Wondai Soccer Fields; in Kumbia, Kumbia will play Cherbourg at the Kumbia cricket grounds; and in Nanango, Nanango's deadly Scorpions will play Services at the Nanango Sportsgrounds in Burnett Street. All games will start at noon. Meanwhile, Murgon District will play Gympie Valleys in Round 4 of the Gympie competition at the Murgon Sportsground from 12:30pm.
Murgon Men's Shed Garage Sale
The Murgon Men's Shed will be part of "The Garage Sale Trail" today with gates opening at 7:30am. There'll be machinery, power tools, furniture, electrical goods and heaps more for sale. The garage sale is being held at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Nanango Stamp Club
The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding its second Saturday of the month meeting at Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 10:00am onwards this morning, followed by lunch for those who'd like to stay on for a bite afterwards. The club is the South Burnett's sole affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council and promotes the hobby of stamp collecting in our region. It meets on the second Saturday morning of each month, and anyone interested in stamp collecting is very welcome to come along for a fun morning out with fellow collectors.
Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Seafood & Sax - Murgon
The Australian Hotel in Lamb Street, Murgon will be holding a Seafood & Sax Night with the South Burnett's very own Sultan of Sax Tom McKenzie from 5:30pm until late tonight. Cooyar Spit Roast
The Cooyar Hotel on the New England Highway at Cooyar will be holding a Spit Roast Night with live music in their Outback Bar behind the pub from 6:30pm until late tonight. The cost is just $20 per head for a great two-course winter feed, but seating is limited so a booking is a must: (07) 4692-6185. There's also free camping nearby if you'd like to stay over.
Kingaroy Bowls Club Bingo
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Nanango Parkun
The newly-formed Nanango parkrun group will be holding its first weekly 5km timed run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event (search for "Ros Gregor Trail" to find the group - but if you can't find it, just register and bring along the barcode).
Plaster Plaque Workshop - Murgon
A Plaster Plaque Workshop will be held at Murgon's Mitre 10 store in Lamb Street from 8:30am to noon this morning. Participants can learn how to create beautiful, nature-inspired wall art plaques from plaster and clay to decorate their home or give as gifts. Course fees are just $5 but places are limited so an RSVP would be greatly appreciated. You can make one or find out more by phoning Mitre 10 on (07) 4168-1244.
Scott Cook - Nanango
Canadian singer-songwriter Scott Cook will be bringing his mix of roots and folk ballads to The Shed next to the Scott Car Park in Nanango from 7:00pm tonight. He'll be playing alongside string band, The She’ll Be Rights, which features fellow Canadian Bramwell Park on banjo and mandolin, and Australia’s Liz Frencham on upright bass. Frencham will also be singing short sets of her own songs. Tickets are $25 and can be bought at Nanango Real Estate in Drayton Street. Family Movie Night - Nanango
A family film night, including a sausage sizzle and a screening of Disney's animated classic "Aladdin", will be held from 5:30pm tonight under the stars at the Nanango Community Baptist Church at the corner of Mt Stanley Road and Heathmore Lane, Nanango. The evening is a fundraiser for La Creme Dance Academy dancers travelling to the USA to perform. The $5 entry fee covers the movie and sausage sizzle. Drinks, lollies and popcorn will be on sale as well. The evening will also feature a performance by the La Creme Dance Academy USA Dance Team, and everyone is welcome. More details? Maclagan Squeezebox Festival
The 17th annual Maclagan Squeezebox Festival will be held at Maclagan Memorial Hall on the Dalby-Cooyar Road in the heart of Maclagan village today. Activities will kick off at 9:00am with a walk-up concert, which will be followed by the main concert that will run from 1:00pm until around 5:30pm. There'll be morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea on offer during the day, and the main concert will be followed by a dinner at 6:00pm, and then a great Old Time dance from 7:00pm until late. A canteen will be running all day and a licensed bar will begin operating in the afternoon. Admission is $12 for adults for the daytime events, and $10 for adults for the dance (children under 15 are free to attend both). There'll also be Lucky Door prizes and a raffle. Cloyna Trail Ride
The Murgon Lions Club will be hosting the inaugural Cloyna Trail Ride from 11:00am this morning (when registrations begin) to around 4:30pm this afternoon (when most riders should have finished the course). The Trail Ride will take participants on a 17.2km loop that will start and end at Cloyna Hall, and spectators are welcome to come and watch the action from 1:00pm onwards. Tickets are $10 for riders and $5 for spectators, and the ride will be followed at 6:00pm with a BBQ dinner and live entertainment. Everyone is welcome!
Autism Conference - Nanango
A Nanango Q Autism Conference will be held at Nanango State School's hall at 39-42 Drayton Street, Nanango from 8:30am to around 4:00pm today. The conference is aimed at individuals, carers, teachers, support workers, service providers, families and professionals, and in addition to guest speakers there'll be information stands from local community service providers. Book seller Lorraine Hodkinson will also have a wide range of books and resources available. Tyson Clancy-Jones & DJ Ty - Kingaroy
South Burnett entertainer Tyson Clancy-Jones will be performing in the front bar of the Kingaroy Hotel-Motel at the corner of Youngman and Haly Streets, Kingaroy from 8:00pm until 10:00pm tonight, followed by DJ Ty who'll be spinning the platters until late. The Touch Of Dutch tulip gardens at 34 Watt Street, Murgon will be open to the public from 10:00am to 5:00pm today. Guests can browse the gardens and enjoy a free cuppa and a biscuit at no charge, and everyone is welcome.
Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall at 1226 Booie Road, Booie from 8:00pm until late tonight. Old Time dance music will be supplied by Mark's Music and there'll be a great supper, novelties and a lucky door prize, too.
