Nanango Easter Saturday Races
- The Nanango Race Club will be holding their Easter Saturday Races at the Lee Park Raceway in Racecourse Road just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today. Today's races will have an Easter fashion theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best Easter outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field spot prizes. The race club's popular licensed bar and BBQ will be operating all day under the extended covered area; the canteen will be open for sit-down dining; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote in the betting ring to take your wagers. There's also lots of undercover seating and plenty of parking on course. The Easter meeting is always a biggie and - as usual - patrons are welcome to picnic on the lawns or even bring their own marquee if they like. This will be a 5 race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and the rear of Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 12:30pm. The first race will leave the barriers around 1:30pm, but gates will open earlier so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under-16s are free). Everyone is welcome!
Easter In Proston
- The Proston QCWA's annual Easter Celebration will be going ahead today, with just a few tweaks due to the COVID pandemic. There will be no Easter Parade this year but there will be market stalls, static displays, raffles and delicious Devonshire teas at Railway Park in Rodney Street from 8:00am to 12:00 noon. There will also be competitions for decorated pushbikes (prizes for best child, boy and girl) and best Easter hats. Visitors are invited to come along, dress up and have fun! More info? John Lindsay - Proston
- Country, blues and rock entertainer John Lindsay will be performing at the Golden Spours Hotel in Blake Street, Proston at 12:00 noon today, and coming back for a second evening session from 6:00pm until late tonight. Nanango Country Markets
- The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Yarraman Men's Shed
- The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Maidenwell Easter Running Festival
- UPDATE: The festival is going ahead but in a reduced format. Today is the second day of the annual three-day Maidenwell Easter Running Festival which is returning after last year's COVID-enforced cancellation. Today's events will kick off about 6:00am and will include a half-marathon, a full marathon and a gruelling 56.2km Saturday Super Marathon. This will be followed by a family fun afternoon with a series of traditional picnic-style events, most of which are free to enter, and novelty races from 2:00pm that include the hilarious Beer/Coke/Champagne Miles, where participants run a fixed short distance, have a drink, and then repeat until they've completed the course ($10 if you BYO or $40 if drinks are supplied). Mr Q Duo At The Palace
- Popular South Burnett band Mr Q will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Fitzroy Street, Nanango as a duo from 8:00pm until late tonight, delivering the band's popular mix of classic pub rock and new faves so guests can unwind after a big day at the Nanango Races. Dance - Inverlaw Hall
- The popular Inverlaw Dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late tonight. This month, music will be supplied by Shades Of Country and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door. Kumbia Campdraft
- The first day of the two-day Kumbia Campdraft will be held at the Kumbia Sportsgrounds off Bell Street in Kumbia from 6:00am this morning when the canteen opens to serve up Big Country Breakfasts through until late this afternoon when the campdrafting action winds down. This year's Campdraft will have a bumper field of competitors and will be offering some really great campdrafting action, with today's competitions focussing on the first two rounds of an Open draft and the first round of a combined Maiden/Novice draft offering great cash prizes. Admission to watch all the action is 100% free for spectators and this evening there'll be a multi-draw raffle, a calcutta on the Open and a licensed bar running until midnight. Hillbilly Hoedown - Blackbutt
- The Radnor Hotel in Coulson Street, Blackbutt will be celebrating Easter with a Hillbilly Hoedown from 5:00pm until late tonight. The Electric Western Band will be performing alongside a mechanical bucking bull and the hotel's kitchen will be operating as well. There's no entry fee and everyone is welcome! More details? Linville Easter Mini Music Festival
- The Linville Hotel in George Street, Linville will be hosting the first day of a mini three-day Easter music festival in the pub's beer garden today, kicking off with the enigmatic Linville County Convicts over lunch and followed by he emblematic Buzz Talay and Stone River Fever tonight. The hotel's kitchen will be open, there's no admission and everyone is welcome. There's also free camping across the road at Linville Station park if you'd like to stay overnight. More details? Wondai Parkrun
- The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Yarraman Markets
- The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Murgon Men's Shed
- The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Double Barrel Jackpot Racing - Nanango
- The Queensland Barrel Racing Association will be holding a Double Barrel Jackpot Racing day at the equestrian grounds in Racecourse Road, Nanango from 10:00am this morning (participants can practice from 8:00am to 9:30am). Today's get-together will feature two barrel racing events along with an Open 4D, a Junior 4D, a 5-10 Years Ridden, a Led event and an Under 5s & Beginners event, along with an Easter Egg Hunt for children. Spectators are very welcome and there's no admission fee.
Proston Men's Shed
- The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am. South Burnett Speedway
- CANCELLED: The South Burnett Speedway will roar into life at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy tonight with the first day of its two-day Easter Stampede meeting, which promises to be two really great nights out for speedway fans. Tonight's meeting will feature Production Sedans, Street Stocks and Junior Sedans. There'll also be canteen facilities operating onsite and camping is available, too, if you want to stay over. Gates will open at 4:00pm, racing will start at 5:00pm and the excitement will continue until around 10:30pm tonight. Admission is $25 for adults, $15 for students (with ID) and aged or disability pensioners or $65 for a family of two adults and up to three students (children 12 and under are free). Everyone is welcome!
Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultramarathon - Runnymede
- POSTPONED: The inaugural Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultramarathon will be taking place on the Walsh family's cattle property at 675 Walsh Rd, Runnymede (11km north of Nanango) from 6:45am onwards today. Runners taking part in the event need to complete a 6.7km lap of the course every hour, and the winner will be the last person left standing. Spectators and supporters are very welcome, too, and more information is available on Dead Cow Gully website Note: This event was postponed on Monday, March 29 after Brisbane was put into lockdown due to COVID concerns. Organisers say a new date will be announced later this year once the situation normalises.
Ken and Annie’s Music Campout Festival - Blackbutt
- CANCELLED: Singers and poets of all experience levels will be performing at Ken and Annie’s Music Campout Festival at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from today through to Easter Sunday. This tagalong tour festival will be coming to Blackbutt with 80 caravans in tow and it will feature workshops and open microphone sessions where participants can put what they've learned to the test. The event is open to everyone - whether they're tone deaf or pitch perfect - and admission for the general public is a slim $2 per day.
