South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
112th Annual Nanango Show
The main public day of the 112th Annual Nanango Show will get underway at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango at 7:00am this morning when the gates open and prime cattle judging begins. This will be followed by horse events and stud cattle judging; barrel racing and other equestrian events in the main ring, along with chainsawing and wood chopping. There'll also be a Dexter cattle show in the grounds, and a terrific bird show as well. The Show's official opening will occur around 11:30am and will be followed by trotting. Other features to look out for this year include a big Sideshow Alley, lots of great amusement rides, live music and roving entertainment, and the fantastic Heritage Nanango fireworks display in the evening. Admission is still just $15 for adults and $10 for pension card holders and children over 14, but children under 14 accompanied by a paying adult can get in for free. A bar, BBQ and lots of food stalls will be operating in the grounds throughout the day and well into the night. More details? Phone the Show Society office on (07) 4163-1273. Kilkivan Great Horse Ride
The second (and main) day of the 3-day Kilkivan Great Horse Ride will be held around Kilkivan today, kicking off at 6:00am with a breakfast, market stalls, trade stalls and many, many other activities at the Kilkivan Showgrounds at 66 Mudlo Road. At 7:30am, participants in the Tansey Trail 30km all-day ride will leave the Showgrounds, and they'll be followed by riders taking part in the Blacksnake Trail 30km ride at 8:00am; and the Carriage Trail 20km ride at noon. All riders will then return around 4:00pm to 4:30pm for a spectacular grand parade along Bligh Street, and in the evening there'll be a Keeping It Country concert at the Showgrounds featuring Ryno & The Wranglers that will run until late, along with food vendors and a licensed bar. Tickets for riders taking part in this year's Ride (which include Showgrounds camping and the campfire concerts) are $50 per adult or $25 for children under 16. Tickets for spectators are also available at $10 for a day pass, $20 for a day pass plus a concert or $25 for a full 3-day pass. South Burnett Gem Show - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Gem and Fossicking Club will be holding the first day of their two-day Gem, Rock and Lapidary Show at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 4:00pm today. The event will feature unique crystal, rock and mineral displays; a dealer pavilion; outdoor tailgaters; and lots of fun for the kids including sand sieving; Thunder Egg cutting; lucky dips and free face painting. Food and drink stalls will be operating in the grounds, too, and there'll be a minerals numbers board as well. The Gem Show drew rave reviews from people who attended the first event in 2019 (the Gem Show couldn't be held last year due to COVID) and if you're a gemstone or lapidary fan it's even more of a "must go" event this year. Windera State School Centenary
Windera State School at 2588 Gayndah Road, Windera will be celebrating its centenary (as well as the centenaries of the now defunct Glenrock and Booubyjan State Schools) in the school's grounds from 8:30am to 5:00pm today. Activities will kick off with registrations and morning tea, followed by some social tennis at 9:30am; the official opening ceremony at 11:00am; lunch with music and a bar at 12:30pm; exhibition tennis and old time games at 2:00pm; and then a BBQ and live entertainment at 5:00pm. There'll also be a multi draw raffle; class photos; activities for children and a jumping castle; stalls; a coffee van; and memorabilia for sale including a Centenary Cookbook. Rugby League - Kingaroy
Rugby league will return to T.J. O'Neill Oval in Kingaroy today with two State competition games plus a double-header in the local A Grade competition. At 2:00pm, the Wide Bay Bulls will take on the Sunshine Coast Falcons in Round 5 of the U16s Cyril Connell Challenge competition; and at 3:30pm, the Bulls will face the Falcons in the U18s Mal Meninga Cup. There are four South Burnett players in the U16s Bulls side and three in the U18s Bulls, so come along and cheer on the local players! Round 3 of the local A Grade competition will then follow with Kingaroy Red Ants v Wondai Wolves from 5:00pm, followed by Nanango Stags v Murgon Mustangs at 6:30pm. Note: Juniors are on school holidays and South Burnett Under 18s will be in action at Gatton today.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Nanango Parkrun
The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Cooranga North Campdraft
The annual Cooranga North Campdraft will be held at the Cooranga North Recreation Reserve on the Kingaroy Jandowae Road at Cooranga North from 6:30am this morning through to late this afternoon. The day will feature Maiden, Junior, Juvenile and Novice drafts, along with a Jackpot Cutout, and there's no admission charge for spectators and everyone is welcome! More details? Seeds Of Hope Bingo - Kingaroy
Bingo games will be held near the caravan park entrance at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 7:00pm this evening (doors open at 6:00pm). Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Beginner's Show - Nanango
The South Burnett Western Performance Club will be holding a Beginner's Show at the Nanango Equestrian Centre in Racecourse Road, Nanango from 8:00am this morning until late this afternoon. Today's Show will be judged by Bob Sim, is PHAA approved and will be run under HSAA rules. It will feature 98 events in a wide range of classes and while bookings have now closed, spectators are very welcome to come along and watch all the action for free. Note: Today's show will be followed by an Open Show at the same time and venue tomorrow.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Natalie Fenton At The Palace
Popular South Burnett entertainer Natalie Fenton will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango from 7:30pm until late tonight. It's a free night of fun, games and dinner hosted by local volunteers. Everyone is welcome but children under 12 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.
