Wondai Autumn Garden Expo
The first day of the weekend-long 2021 Wondai Autumn Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sports Grounds, off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD, from 8:00am this morning through until 4:30pm this afternoon. The Expo has become one of the South Burnett's signature annual events as well as one of the largest gardening shows of its type in south-east Queensland. It always draws thousands of keen gardeners to Wondai every April. As well as the usual wide range of plant and garden-related product displays, the Expo will also feature guest speakers, live music and food and drink stalls, along with a special display by the South Burnett Orchid Society. Proston Golden Spurs Campdraft
The second day of the three day Proston Golden Spurs Campdraft will kick off at the Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road west of the CBD at 6:30am this morning. Today's events will begin with the first round of the Novice; then Mini, Junior and Juvenile drafts; and then the final of the Reserve Open. And tomorrow, the event will conclude with the first round of the Open, the final of the Novice, and then the 2nd round and the final of the Open, along with some children's events in the morning organised by the Proston Pony Club. The Spurs is always a big event and spectators are welcome to come and watch the action for free. There'll also be limited refreshments in the grounds, and plenty of extra parking available at the nearby Proston Golf Club, which will also be broadcasting this year's campdraft live. Note: This year's event was originally scheduled for March 19-21, but had to be postponed a month due to wet weather.
High Hats, High Tea & Cocktails - Proston
The Golden Spurs Hotel at the corner of Blake and Rodney Streets in Proston will be hosting a High Hats and Fascinators High Tea Cocktail Party for grandmothers, mothers, daughters and friends of all ages from 2:00pm to 5:00pm this afternoon. The get-together is a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness, and guests are encouraged to bring their best decorated bra to pin up on the wall. There'll also be a lucky door prize, a prize for the best dressed patron, a fashion runway and a field fashion walk (dress in pink for this!), plus raffles and special guest speakers Sue Cox, Ros Heit and Sonia McMahon. Tickets are just $20 per head and you can book yours in advance by phoning Di or Andy at the Spurs on (07) 4168-9069.
Love 2 Sing Karaoke - Murgon
Love 2 Sing Karaoke will be running a karaoke night at the Australian Hotel at the corner of Lamb and Gore Streets in Murgon from 7:00pm until late tonight. The hotel's kitchen will also be open from 5:30pm if you want to grab a dinner beforehand. More details? Phone the hotel on (07) 4168-1095.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Nanango Parkrun
The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Kids On Tour - Wondai
Brisbane's Gallery Of Moderrn Art (GOMA) will be running a Kids On Tour arts activity workshop for children aged 6 to 11 at the Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai from 10:00am until 12:00 noon this morning. The workshop will let children get involved in a wide range of arts-related activities while their parents enjoy a morning tea, and it's completely free. More details? Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon
A come-and-try day for anyone interested in wheelchair basketball will be held at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon, from 10:00am to noon today. The Suncoast Spinners are hosting the day alongside South Burnett Peace of Mind. Wheelchair basketball is inclusive, which means isn’t just for people in a wheelchair. Goomeri Creatives Garage Sale
Arts and crafts group Goomeri Creatives will be holding a Monster Garage Sale at the Breitkreutz Pavilion at Goomeri's cricket grounds in McIvor Street from 7:00am to 1:00pm today. In addition to a great range of unique, hand-made goods just perfect for special occasion gifts (including gifts to yourself) there'll also be s sausage sizzle running, along with tea and coffee. Lazy Sunday At The Palace
Popular South Burnett duo Lazy Sunday (aka Grant and Vashti) will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango from 7:30pm until late tonight. This will be one of the duo's first performances this year after a long, COVID-enforced layoff and a great chance for fans to enjoy them all over again. Saturday Rugby League
With school holidays off and running, there won't be any junior rugby league played in the region this weekend. But fans of A-Grade should get along to the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon by 2:00pm to see the Cherbourg Hornets play Nanango's Stags in Round 4 of this year's local competition. After this there'll be a second A-Grade clash between the Murgon Mustangs and Wondai Wolves at 3:30pm. Alternately - if you fancy a long drive - you can watch the South Burnett U18s play Pittsworth at Drayton.
Seeds Of Hope Bingo - Kingaroy
Bingo games will be held near the caravan park entrance at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 7:00pm this evening (doors open at 6:00pm).
